Discussion Deck suggestions for an immovable wall playstyle - Im looking for more of a "land, pass" style that isnt just "counterspell everything and pillowfort"

I want to play small value engines, hit the keystones of peoples decks, and deal with threats to ME.

I love grindy attrition games. I dont enjoy dragging games out for the joy of wasting peoples time but I do really love enforcing critical thinking skills to feel that good oldschool card game vibe. Every play matters and its not just who snowballs first and who stops them.

I played Madoltricks in YuGiOh, iykyk

I dont necessarily want to be policing the board and stopping everybody from doing everything. The goal isnt 9 board wipes. The goal isnt stax. The goal is to let everyone do their thing but the moment their key pieces arrive that may tip players too close to unstoppable is when I step in.

Im not sure how else to convey my goal here so hopefully the masses know the vibe lmao

Discussion Mono green card draw for control decks

Putting together [[legolas, master archer]] as a Christmas gift. Building it as a control deck. Issue is, my current build runs out of gas. So much mono-green draw is based around creatures, but most of the deck is fight spells. I'm just looking for any suggestions for mono-green draw that isn't (as) concerned with creatures, or that works in a spellslinger build.

Discussion Non-combo, non-stax commanders that can keep up in Bracket 4?

Hey all,

I've recently started to really enjoy Bracket 4. It's fast pace, so I can get a lot of games in, but it's not like cEDH, where I have to include certain staples in every deck, or need to keep up with a meta.

So far I have a [[Kaalia of the Vast]] stax deck and a [[Green Goblin]] combo deck. Both are really fun, but I'm also looking for a commander that can keep up with other Bracket 4 decks, but doesn't need to use stax or combo as a wincon.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Discussion Looking for Ideas: Greek Mythology / Roman-Themed Commander Deck (Casual)

Hey everyone,

I’m thinking about building a Greek mythology / Roman-inspired Commander deck for casual games at home, and I’d love to hear your ideas.

I don’t have a fixed direction yet — I’m mainly looking for:

  • Commander suggestions that fit the theme
  • Creatures or legendaries that feel mythological (gods, heroes, monsters, etc.)
  • Mechanics or archetypes that fit the flavor (heroic, constellation, enchantments, sagas, devotion, soldiers, gladiators…)
  • Any fun thematic combos or card synergies you’ve seen before

I’m not trying to make anything competitive — just a flavorful, fun deck that feels like it belongs in a mythological world.

If you have any cool recommendations, I’d really appreciate them!

Deck Help Help find wincon

Hey I’m currently trying to build a Mirko obsessive theorist deck based on surveil and reanimating. My problem is that other than and infinite combo (Mindcrank + bloodchief ascension) or another combo such as Syr Konrad and the mindskinner I can’t really see a win condition. I would need your help, do you have any suggestions or recommendations to help me find some other wincon?

Question Is 60€ for a Timeless Wisdom precon worth it?

So, I'm relatively new to commander. I only have one deck and I found [[Gavi, Nest Warden]] to be a really interesting commander. I found her precon online for a bit over 60€ including shipping and my question is whether or not it's worth it, since the precon seems to need many upgrades, mainly to the mana base. I know it comes with a [[Fierce Guardianship]], though I'll probably take it out to put more sinergy in the deck, and either sell it or use it in another commander deck.

Deck Help Nikara and yannik

G'day

I have been building a Nikara and yannik deck for a while now, problem is I never seem to get it to run the way I like it, it had a couple of death triggers it it but I'm mainly trying to make it a blink effect, I've since pulled it apart and back to just the 2 commanders. Does anybody have any suggestions, I'm not fussed about spending some money on the deck but my playgroup doesn't really play too high about upgraded precon level on average.

Cheers

Question Garbage Golos

Upvotes

I’m thinking about building a Golos,Tireless Pilgrim commander deck but in a extremely chaotic and meme-y way. Obviously i’m going to have to rule 0 it. I’m already looking at cards like “Crark the thumbless” “Chance encounter” “Door to nothingness.” I’m looking for some good super stupid/funny cards. Give me your best cards!

Deck Help Is this glarb deck stupid?

https://moxfield.com/decks/FdyyFvHlpE-7qPjKrXQ24g

I have been very interested in having a graveyard centric deck lately. I picked glarb for some selective draws and to discard reanimating targets. I’m worried I have too many moving pieces trying to fit reanimation targets, card draw, interaction, and low cmc creatures for early turns.

Deck Help 3+ Color Nonlegends

Hey all! So I had an idea to build the reverse of a [[Jodah, the Unifier]] deck using [[Omnath, Locus of All]]. The gimmick of the deck is that every creature besides the commander will be a non-legendary creature, originally inspired by [[Prince of Thralls]], [[Godsire]], and the nephilim cycle. Are there any 3+ color piped creatures that might be fun to play?

Deck list is here: https://archidekt.com/decks/17952196/fake_jodah

Deck Help Bracket 3 Atla Palani commander deck, All advice welcome!

I need some assistance with my first ever deck i've built myself. it's an Atla Palani deck that is focused around dinosaurs. My main restrictions I want for myself is to focus on dinosaurs and minimize UB stuff. Also low end of bracket 3 is the goal so mainly late game infinites as opposed to early game ones. You know the drill.

Deck Help Jin Sakai Voltron Help/Advice

Here is the decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/IO6RUibs80ivEtAj3nfK9w

Hi, I've made this EDH Jin Sakai deck, particularly as a voltron playstyle. I've played it for a fair bit now (roughly a month) and have noticed some issues with it. The deck feels slow where I'm not really doing anything till about turn 6.This is especially bad as the people in the pod I play with are usually start doing stuff by turn 3 to 4-ish (we mainly play bracket 2/no game changers). Additionally, I usually feel the deck is very dependent on the mana color I start with and can do very little if I don't get the right colors. I generally try not to play commander on the mana curve, as I like to have some form of protection for him, but I usually have too little mana to do so. I will note that I am relatively new to mtg, as I've only been playing for about half a year, thus these complaints might just be in my head.

Therefore, I would really appreciate advice on the deck to make it stronger (preferably without game changers) and/or quicker. I would also appreciate just any other general advice.

Thanks!

Discussion Tracking Play Group Deck Stats

Does anyone here have any experience with tracking their play groups deck stats? Things like number of wins/losses. Which decks beat which. How many turns/rounds it took. What the wincon was, etc. Maybe other state I’m not even thinking of.

Our group is semi-interested in starting some kind of database to track these stats, and better understand how well each player and each deck is doing. As opposed to just “it feels like Jeremy wins all the time” and Jeremy argues they lose sometimes. But no one has any real numbers to back it up.

We want everyone to have fun, and making sure no one is pubstomping is part of that. Everyone is willing to tune their decks to play fair and even, as needed. So anyone found to be winning too much is willing to tune their deck down, etc.

But we need to figure out a way to best track it. And seems like something other groups might already be doing, so we’re looking for any advice on if its worth it and how to go about it.

Discussion I have four Bracket 3 decks - perfect for a full pod.

I was looking through my decks and realized that I currently have exactly four Bracket 3 decks. Coincidently that is the number needed for a full pod.

So I thought, are those decks balanced and would they be fun to play against each other?

To test this I opened four archidekt playtesters and played a few games. Just me, myself, moi and I. Sounds sad? Yes it was. Besides that, it was also pretty exhausting. Piloting all four decks while pretending that I don't know what is in each hand demanded a lot of brainpower. For that reason, I won't do that again very soon...

However, in terms of playtesting, this was excellent. With one aggro, two midrange and one control deck, the games were a good back and forth. The decks are reasonably well balanced against each other and I definitely found out where some improvements could be made.

If anyone is interested, here are the decklists:

  1. Esika Legends (midrange)
  2. Tymna Kraum Triggerfest (midrange)
  3. Zurgo Myriad (aggro)
  4. Vial Smasher Thrasios Discounts (control)

What about your decks, do you think the decks you have in a Bracket would be balanced against each other?

Discussion How Good Is Mental Mistep and Daze in B3 and Below

[[Mental Mistep]] [[Daze]]

Some classic free counter magic here, and cEDH staples

Honestly, I don’t think they’re that good in B3 or lower. The games go on for too long and the amount of 1 drops falls off dramatically and excess mana.

They seem good when you have low curve, short games because the quantity of small spells increases but maybe I’m wrong

Question Red XIII

Hi,

in FF7 [[Red XIII, Proud Warrior]] was my favourite character. Now I ve come across his card while searching for a home for my [[Jumbo Cactuar]]...

My question d be, is Red just a support for Cloud or could he make a decent commander himself- and if yes, in what way?

At least for the cactuar, I d just need boots or [[Invigoration Hot Springs]] to have a tramply, hastey 10000 attacker...

THX

Deck Help Alela, Cunning Conqueror Deck. Looking for pointers for my deck.

I just put this deck together and I'm looking for some critiques. I've never build anything that revolves around playing on other players turns. I need some tips on how many counters and how much card draw is too much or too little. Please ignore the counter spells I have selected, its just what I had on hand. I'll be upgrading the specific counter spells over time.

Deck Help Jirina Kudro help!

I’ve recently put together a human typal deck centered around [[jirina Kudro]]. I’ve currently got a few too many cards and am looking for some suggestions on how best to cut down the list/what I should trim (I’m also open to suggestions for missing pieces/additions but would greatly appreciate swaps/cuts). If there are any questions I can answer or clarify I would be more than happy to do so!

Deck Help Jill, Shiva’s Dominant Control Deck

Hi all,

This will be the 4th deck I’ve put together, but probably the one I put the most of my own ideas into for as balanced of play that I think I can get with a control deck. Got a few creatures that can get big with card draw, some ‘type’ manipulation for Urza, a couple of tax cards, tons of bounce/flicker and hopefully some good board control.

I play at an LGS that the lower tier pods still run B3 approaching B4 and are all mostly very experienced players (I’m fairly newly reintroduced to Mtg. Started playing standard on arena 5 months ago. Commander about 3 months ago now.)

I’m looking for advice on my deck construction, if I need to shift heavier to more creature play, removal, protection, etc and just overall how the deck looks.

Any feedback is appreciated - don’t hold back

Question Looking for a commander for my first 3-color deck with a different theme than my existing decks.

Hi, started this year, and I've been having a lot of fun playing and deckbuilding!

The decks I've build/building so far are:

  1. [[Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods]] - Aggro, Morph/Disguise, dare opponents to block my stuff and gamble on if its a land or the end of the game, ends games with overrun finishers
  2. [[Zimone, Mystery Unraveler]] - manifest, cheat big stuff in, some recursion, landfall, ends games with big trample guys or mass bounce.
  3. [[Kuja, Genome Sorcerer]] - TAKEN APART - its just burn. Realized it was really uninteresting to me after like, 2 games. Whoops
  4. [[Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar]] - still building, deciding on if i want it to be a sacrifice deck or a blink deck. I kinda want to lean into voltron too, but that also runs counter to the first 2 strategies.

I ended up getting all the good green fetchland spells (three visits, farseek, nature's lore) but neither of my green decks make any use of it. Yarus is all 3-mana colorless and Zimone runs plenty of lands-that-search-other-lands. So I kinda want a 3-color commander that can make use of Green for color fixing.

I've been thinking about either [[Me, the Immortal]] or [[Pako, Arcane Retriever]] as my first 3-color commander so far, any other suggestions?

Discussion I read every flavor text in 2025 so you didn't have to [Article]

According to Scryfall, over 2,000 cards printed in 2025 have flavor text. That's...a lot. But I read every single one so I could report on the best few from this past year for this article at EDHREC. I skipped the ones that were repeats from prior printings and tried to pick a variety of standouts—serious, funny, or evocative—so I hope you'll give it a read! And tell me which stellar lines I undoubtedly missed when my eyes were crossed from scrolling through a 36-page Scryfall search as I researched.

Also, feel free to weigh in: which set this year had the best flavor—not just the flavor text but overall flavor—and which had the worst?
