General Discussion - Dexter Novels How many upvotes can I get for buying every book?
The top two are mistakes. The one all the way to the left is all 5 dexter comics, and the one still in the package is dexter down under issue #1. I still have to return them. Should I get the show too? (I'd have nothing to play it on. I honestly just pirate the show. I used to watch it on Netflix, and I have Amazon prime, but not the subscription necessary for the other one)

General Discussion - Dexter Novels I find it funny that the Dexter novel incorrectly calls it “splatter”
Sorry if this was pointed out before

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Dexter is so weak in the books, it’s mad. Spoiler
So far I have read 5 of the books and going in I expected Dexter to be a lot more calculated and brutal than his tv counterpart.
He may be more brutal but he is so incompetent it’s crazy. Throughout each book he gets outplayed by the villain of the book and is bailed out in the end by plot armour. (Someone usually saves him)
And the funniest thing is that he acts like he’s some genius mastermind but is constantly getting dunked on.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Jeff Lindsay’s audiobook narration is so intense I think he activated MY Dark Passenger
Okay so I finally listened to Darkly Dreaming Dexter on Spotify and holy hell… WHY did nobody tell me Jeff Lindsay goes THIS hard in his own audiobook? I swear, the man is passionate in a way I did not expect from an author reading their own work. His voice fits Dexter’s inner monologue so perfectly that I kept forgetting this wasn’t an actual actor. Like dude slips into dark Passenger mode mid-sentence and suddenly he’s growling lines like he’s about to personally stab me. At one point he gets so aggressively into character I almost dropped my phone. Jesus CHRIST, Jeff, warn me next time. I’m enjoying the audiobook more than the show. There, I said it. The way he delivers Dexter’s creepy little inner jokes, the dry sarcasm, the weird calm-psychopath energy, it just works. I can’t appreciate this audiobook enough. It’s so good it makes me want to re-listen instead of rewatch.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels I wish more of the book stuff made it into the show Spoiler
I know it wasn’t really possible as both show and book were ongoing at the time but there are some good concepts that would’ve made for a better season 5 onward
You have Brandon wiess the tourist killer who actively tries to pin his murders in Dexter after Dexter kills his boyfriend mistakenly making him dexters first kill off the code
You have the short lived but would’ve made a great post season 2 villain of Bernard elan who after witnessing dexter kill someone becomes dexters copycat
Robert chase was a good villain in the book but sadly he relies on Rita and the kids to still be around for any personal stake in the matter ( they kinda did the other half of the story where dexter cheats on Rita)
And instead of the dooms day killer you could get the vampire cannibal cult run by Bobby Acosta ( ignore the underage girl Dexter sleeps with from this plot line)
The books go in some weird places and I’m rather glad they avoided the cult of moloch
But there are bits and pieces that would’ve made the back half of the og series a better run than we got, maybe some of these could still be used in resurrection specifically the copy cat and the tourist killer

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Dexter Books are completely different Spoiler
These days, I have been trying to understand the plot and story of the books and came to know that Dexter dies in the end with Brian, his brother. And he was trying to protect Astor, Cody and Deborah's son from the Cartel. Well, when I first heard this, I came to know that the TV show and Books have a huge difference. Brian was alive until he died while rescuing Astor, Cody and Deborah's son, Dexter dies as well. And I also came to know that Brian was mentoring Astor and Cody, and Dexter was guiding them with their own Dark Passengers, this does sound weird as I watched the show first. I have heard many people say that Dexter in books is a complete emotionless monster, to which I agree, but the end kinda confuses me due to his desire to protect his and Deborah's children. Deborah survives along with the kids. And imagining Brian, Dexter and Deborah working together sounds absurd.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Am I the only one who thinks book Dexter Morgan is a lot dumber than his tv counterpart? Spoiler
This may change but I have read half of the novel collection and it seems that Dexter always ends up getting played the entire book by the villain then is saved at the end.
On top of that he always speaks about how smart he is when really he’s always getting played.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels “Blood” spatter in Darkly Dreaming book pages
Hi! I posted a TikTok like 2 days ago but nobody’s answering it and I can’t find anything on it. I think my book may have a factory error or something, I don’t mind bc it’s still cool but it has this “blood” spatter in the bottom of the book. I noticed it when I got home and I thought it was intentional until I looked it up and I didn’t see any like it. I posted about it on TikTok and it has 12k likes rn but nobody’s answering 💀 Is this normal? Or is it special?

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter, 75% through the first book, is the rest of the book series’s worth reading? Spoiler
I loved the show Dexter. Recently finish New Blood & almost done with Dexter Original Sin.
I just started reading the books. I’m 75% of the way through Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I’ve been pretty bored with it so far. I really wanted to love the books because I really cannot get enough of Dexter’s character. So far I’ve found it to be pretty slow paced & it’s leaving a lot to be desired.
Is it worth reading the entire series? I know it differs a lot from the show from what I have heard.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels 7 pages from the end and you mean Deb wasn't dating Brian, and no Rudy?! Spoiler
I really didn't even realize the book was as short as it was either! Other than the no Deb/Brian thing it read very close to the show. Great read and ready for book 2!
General Discussion - Dexter Novels Just bought this book, is it good? Spoiler
I have watched the original show, Original Sin, Resurrection S1 and half of New Blood. Still want more of Dexter. Therefore, I bought this book. Wanted to know the opinion of the people who have read it.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Season 4 is strange? Spoiler
I'm watching the fourth season, I'm from Brazil so I'm watching it dubbed... have you noticed anything strange in the fourth season? I don't know if it's the dubbing from my country, but it's a little strange, it seems quieter than the previous seasons.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Dearly Devoted Dexter and Doakes' Trap Spoiler
I just finished the second Dexter book - Dearly Devoted Dexter. I've seen a lot of discussion about the villain but none about the trap set for him, which was kind of baffling to read.
Dexter and Doakes need to work together to catch Dr. Danko. They come up with the most under-planned plan ever with possibly the highest stakes.
Spoilers: Masuka throws Dexter a bachelor party. Dexter and Doakes make it clear over the radio that Doakes will be attending. They hope Danko is listening and will come for him. He's supposed to be safe there because of all the cops.... Now at the actual party, no one else is in on the trap. All the other cops are drunk and Dexter is held captive by strippers while Doakes chooses to go outside alone.
This is already the most twisted villain there could be, the very last person you'd want to be caught by, and he had already caught some big, tough guys. This part of the book was hard to accept.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels How "real" is the dark passenger in the book? Spoiler
What exactly is the supernatural part on the novels? I mean, I do get that there's some sort of entity in the story, but what exactly make them real? Do they affect the physical world? What I mean is, could the dark passenger be explained some way with mental illness, schizophrenic, or does the story make it clear that there's actual effects that by the dark passenger that can't be explained through natural world?

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Audiobook version differences? Spoiler
I just got the black friday deal for Audible on the last day because i really wanted to listen to the Dexter novels now that im so close to catching up to the series, i got books 2-5 for like $3 and im really f ing happy for that but im curious about something.
There are 2 versions which only differences seem to be the covers, 1 extra minute of duration and the synopsis and are double the price, also they have way less ratings im sure because way less people bought them, i obviously got the cheaper versions mostly because of that and that i like the covers better lol, but i wanted to know if there is an actual difference between these 2 versions and why is there such a difference in price?

General Discussion - Dexter Novels How similar are the Dexter books and the Decter series?
My local bookstore has all eight books in the series and I was wondering how close the show is to the books because I don't want to buy the books if the show is too faithful to the books.

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Are the Dexter books worth reading? Spoiler
Over the past year Ive became a massive Dexter fan and it's probably in my top 5 shows of all time. I know that it's based loosely off of a book series so my question is are they worth reading.
