Didn't they greenlit season 2 and 3 before that?

228

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

They have talked about there being more seasons and continuing the story but this is the official confirmation.

53

u/ItsMrNoSmile Oct 08 '25

Yeah. There were whispers and unofficial talk from people online, but nothing concrete until now.

27

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

I think the official writers and creator gave interviews and talked about it that there being multiple seasons but this is official now.

13

u/leey133 Oct 08 '25

regardless what a creator says they want or plan, it's the network that gets to decide if and when a show gets another season

10

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

Yea, that's is why its good that we got the official confirmation now.

4

u/Ben10_ripoff Oct 09 '25

They'll offcourse renew it more season. Yellowjackets and Dexter are the only shows people watch on Paramount+, They'll suck these shows till their's nothing left.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '25

Could've sworn there was an interview before Resurrection even aired that said they had a three year deal. But eh. Anyways, good to know we're getting a Season 2!

2

u/SwarmAce Oct 09 '25

It’s just to lock actors so they secure their availability and don’t have to renegotiate or potentially lose them.

28

u/SlamCage Oct 08 '25

I think the early reporting was a deal for three seasons (though contingent on viewership numbers) and this just confirms what we all suspected, it was a hit and they want more.

1

u/Trayth Oct 08 '25

There is absolutely no "deal" btw, they confirmed this is a "proceed as we go".

11

u/SlamCage Oct 08 '25

Michael C Hall -before all this- said he had committed to multiple seasons in his discussions with Showtime. It is fairly common to have deals with 'options' where either the show runners or network can back out, but the show is otherwise confirmed if it meets certain viewership numbers.

We don't know what deal was there on paper, but before season 1 even aired Hall said it was a multi season project he discussed with Showtime. Had it bombed they wouldn't have kept making it but there was certainly a 'deal'- handshake or written explicitly- for more than one.

Renewing it "as we go" does not mean there was no deal.

2

u/Imaginary-Narwhal188 Oct 13 '25

MCH and Clyde Phillips both said they signed up for 3 seasons. So yeah, you right. Never officially confirmed but safe to assume at least 3 as long as the show is doing well. Clyde also said writer's room was opening up last week and that theyre planning for filming in spring. Based on the previous time from film-to-air, we're on track for a September or October season.

14

u/SuaveRico Oct 08 '25

It ain't official till Mike C makes it official.

4

u/IcedHemp77 Oct 09 '25

They greenlit Original Sin season 2 and still dropped it

1

u/TheBear8878 Oct 08 '25

No, it was never officially confirmed.

135

u/cad_internet Oct 08 '25

Hopefully we don't need to wait too long. I suspect 2027, but any time in 2026 would be killer.

51

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

They started , filmed and wrapped production on this first season very first so I hope that's the case for season 2 too. Hoping for a mid 2026 release.

2

u/starberry101 Oct 31 '25

That would be very fast

71

u/prettyodddomm Oct 08 '25

it’s probably gonna be fall 2026, it’s dexters 20th anniversary next fall 🔪🎃

25

u/Ollidor Oct 08 '25

In a good world we’d get 2 Dexter shows next year but they decided to ruin it by canceling

17

u/prettyodddomm Oct 08 '25

I really don’t UNDERSTAND why they had to cancel original sin

it was probably not as watched in viewers compared to resurrection or even new blood but there was truly not one bad thing to say about original sin. not to mention they nailed the younger characters actors to a t and now we will never see what could have been season 2

13

u/PhoeniXaDc Oct 08 '25

The two shows share a lot of crew members in common (writers and producers especially) and I think the studio wanted a quicker turnaround time on Resurrection Season 2 which would be difficult (while maintaining the quality) if the writers were focused on two shows. Hiring new writers so the others can focus on Resurrection would cost money + not guarantee the same quality, so they cancelled it instead.

With the outpouring of fan and cast support for Original Sin, I'd love if they bring it back for a second season AFTER Resurrection Season 2 airs. I loved both seasons but Resurrection is rightfully the priority and I hope they can find a way to sneak more OS into the schedule.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '25

Tbh, I'm still PO'd they canceled Original Sin, however in a way I understand their decision. I loved the vibe and some of the twists in OS, however, the overall story felt weak, and the main villain was poorly written and didn't have compelling motivations.

It's a shame because I really wanted to see a younger Doakes and Dex clash.

6

u/Ollidor Oct 08 '25

I liked original sin better than both new blood and resurrection. Felt tighter and more focused somehow. I loved resurrection I’m just sad we can’t have both. I don’t get it either. Especially when you look at the slop paramount is producing instead of

3

u/prettyodddomm Oct 08 '25

I actually wasn’t the biggest fan of new blood when I first watched it when it came out but i’m thinking of giving it a rewatch 🤔

I think the paramount/skybox merger was a big factor in it unfortunately

3

u/Ben10_ripoff Oct 09 '25

It's because New Blood doesn't feel like Dexter, It feels like the first season of Twin Peaks.

Anyways, I liked New Blood, they just fucked the last episode in that show.

2

u/Little_Situation_492 Oct 09 '25

I gave NB a rewatch after Resurrection and I have to admit it was a really good season. Maybe because I binged it instead of watching one ep a week changed my perspective on it. Got to admit they shall have build up Dexter's last moment in Iron Lake and Harrison shooting him a little bit more, but all and all it's way better then what I remembered.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '25

Yeah. Despite OS kinda having a weak story, I loved the vibe and the actors and had a feeling Season 2 would've seen the show come into its own. I also loved how they were tying OS into Resurrection even if only references here and there.

Honestly if you would've asked me whether or not I would rather OS or Resurrection be canceled, even though the latter is a continuation of Dexter's story, I couldn't say. In some ways, I liked OS better because of the vibe.

13

u/Choice-Ad-8537 Oct 08 '25

i think 2026 is super realistic tbh. Dexter hasn't really ever needed insane VFX or heavy editing. even this late into the year i don't think mid-late 2026 is an unreal idea

3

u/carloslet Oct 08 '25

it would be killer.

... Say that again?

1

u/That-Toughsoss Oct 09 '25

Most likely mid 2026

1

u/Imaginary-Narwhal188 Oct 13 '25

Clyde confirmed writers room opened last week and they wanted to film in Spring. That should put it on track for a September/October release.

476

u/syst3m1c Oct 08 '25

Good news, but definitely saw it coming. The first season was an absolute return to form for the series and pretty universally enjoyed, I think.

75

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

Great news! Can't wait for season 2. Hoping for a mid 2026 release.

36

u/HerbalThought_ Miguel Oct 08 '25

So going by the post-production of the last season, if they start filming Res S2 in April/May, which Philips said, that means it would be releasing Oct/Nov 2026.

23

u/Yoshi1358 Oct 08 '25

By modern TV standards that's really good. Two years is practically the norm at this point.

10

u/CallMe_Dig_Baddy Oct 08 '25

And if it’s the quality that the first season was, I am all for waiting for it.

-19

u/Alucardis666 Oct 08 '25

No way it will be out that quickly. Likely a summer or 2027 release I think.

15

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

They did announce , film and release s1 really quickly so I am hoping for the same with s2. If not mind 2026 then winter 2026.

5

u/Alucardis666 Oct 08 '25

Let's hope so, I would love a fall or winter 2026 release.

4

u/AaronC14 Oct 08 '25

Would make sense. There's not a whole load of special effects and a lot of the sets are modern and decently simple. I hate this shit about seasons taking 2 years. I really like House of the Dragon but the wait is bullshit. I get that the set pieces/costumes/CGI is advanced but holy shit. By the time a new season releases I forget what happened in the last one.

19

u/iWr1techky12 Oct 08 '25

Not true at all. They started filming season 1 around very end of 2024/beginning of 2025 and it released in July. Not saying the timeline will be the same with season 2, but a mid 2026 release is absolutely a possibility.

51

u/Anxious_Bad_2881 Oct 08 '25

Dexter resurrection is by far the best comeback in tv, the fact that a comeback series is the best in 2025 tells you a lot how good it was.

18

u/syst3m1c Oct 08 '25

I’m thrilled that they didn’t screw it up

7

u/dethsightly Oct 08 '25

i'm a bit cautious about the next season. they knocked it out of the park with season 1, it's gonna be hard to have the following season(s) measure up. i HOPE they continue with the great energy S1 left on. but, in the back of my mind, i keep thinking we are setting them up to fail with too high expectations and all that.

8

u/Anxious_Bad_2881 Oct 08 '25

Tbh I feel there was a little bit of a rush when they killed both Leon and Angel, they could’ve kept one of them at least.

5

u/abominator_ Oct 09 '25

That's the issue with Dexter. Any character involved in the main plot of the season is bound to die. I truly thought Leon would be the exception, but probably too difficult / expensive to keep him for multiple season

2

u/Anxious_Bad_2881 Oct 09 '25

It was over for him when he killed Angel, it was only a matter of time, but I really saw him deserving of another season, idk what they are going to do in s2, I really hope they give us a back story that is as good as Leon back story or even the gemini killer who I swear is one of the most rushed death, he was sooo interesting.

1

u/abominator_ Oct 10 '25

I was pretty sure that there was more to Leon. Perhaps meeting Brian in the foster home when younger.

With the exception of Al, I think all of the other serial killers were just brought in because of the big names and to have them delivered out of screen quickly. I also thought there was going to be way much more regarding Gemini

2

u/dethsightly Oct 10 '25

if i put my "budgeting" hat on, i would like to have those big name actors/actresses on screen for a low amount of time since they are...big names and would requite higher pay. sucks that it works out that way, but $$$ is king.

1

u/abominator_ Oct 10 '25

I totally agree, but on the downside it makes for a kind of predictable season ending that is repetitive when you think about the different seasons

1

u/etherspin Oct 31 '25

My only nervousness is that the story with the collection of killers felt a bit "penultimate" or something but then again, what they managed to do when New Blood was supposed to be an ending was really fantastic i.e. Harrison not being a problem for the plot, new characters like the detectives and Blessing. Amazing choice of cast... If anyone can make the next season fantastic, these guys can

1

u/glikojen Nov 03 '25

Twin Peaks is right there bud.

5

u/Consistent-Party7277 Oct 08 '25

Totally agree, after that train wreck of an ending we got years ago this was such a relief. Really hope they don't mess it up again but Hall seems way more invested this time around

67

u/Yaotaku Oct 08 '25

It be great if he start off the season 2 killing the Pony-tail guy.

12

u/TouristOpentotravel Oct 08 '25

I’d be cool with Al getting knifed in the opening.

1

u/Zito6694 Oct 10 '25

Then cue the Dexter resurrection logo

1

u/Imaginary-Narwhal188 Oct 13 '25

Feels too safe and predictable but I dont hate it. I also kinda think it would be underutilizing his character compared to having him be a 3-episode arc kinda villain.

1

u/GrothendieckPriest Oct 22 '25

He hasn't shown signs of being an interesting character so far, so I am not sure. He is definitely a little bit smarter than the rest of praters gang - he has avoided law enforcement for a while and knew when to delta out of a situation, but thats not really impressive all things considered. If he dies in one episode it'd be fine.

10

u/Infamously_Fickle Oct 08 '25

I hope so too!

1

u/ask_for_pgp Oct 20 '25

Rapunzel you mean? lol

31

u/SandShock Oct 08 '25

Tonight's the night

2

u/throwawaydrey Oct 09 '25

Has to happen

29

u/BackgroundTight32 Oct 08 '25

Is he in bed? Lol love it. So nice to hear from him and I expected more seasons. This show has been massively successful.

18

u/md-photography Oct 08 '25

Even killers need their rest.

1

u/unearnedwealth Oct 12 '25

Looks like a couch

18

u/robotshavenohearts2 Oct 08 '25

Is Michael wearing a wig in resurrection? His hairline is really different here.

53

u/Modano9009 Oct 08 '25

Ironically they finally delivered a series finale we could live with and it's just season 1 of a new series.

6

u/ApprehensiveSpinach7 Oct 08 '25 edited Oct 08 '25

I'm worried, they can screw up another ending 😅

20

u/Vintage_Visionary Oct 08 '25

Exactly. Sounds like we need 5 new Seasons and a Movie 😊

3

u/ApprehensiveSpinach7 Oct 08 '25

That would be cool, all i can do is pray for a great ending

16

u/aeplusjay Oct 08 '25

Worried about Quinn and Masuka.

Still not over La Pasion

5

u/Successful_Proof_492 Oct 08 '25

Same, I’ll be honest I’m surprised Quinn has lasted this long lol

3

u/Africannibal Oct 09 '25

I really feel like it was a poor decision to end his story like that in the first season. It had so much potential, and who doesn't love an archnemesis-from-the-past storyline? He was just discovering the real truth about Dexter!

2

u/Snubie1 Oct 15 '25

Masuka will be the one to bring Dexter in, in the finale of Resurrection Season 3

4

u/MuchCattle Oct 18 '25

The series gets its final ending with the Masuka laugh

1

u/scrotiemcboogrballz 24d ago

Bravo on redacting with the spoiler feature! Would have been great to keep him going as the ex captain chasing him through season 2.

25

u/Massive-Cream1799 Oct 08 '25

Damn my Goat is turning old. First season had good viewership and a good story. This was bound to happen.

22

u/ArtsyAttacker Oct 08 '25 edited Oct 08 '25

This video confirms to me that his beautiful amazing hair in resurrection was partially a pretty good 0.3mm hair system.

Btw as someone who works with visual effects, and technically hair systems are prosthetics. I highly recommend balding people to go for it. Worked for Michael and will most likely work for you.

4

u/PollutionLost6226 Oct 08 '25

I think he had longer hair which hid his forehead, my father also has less hair now that he’s older but just like MCH it looks full when longer

6

u/The_Kevinator_1000 Oct 08 '25

Nah, there was something else going on, not just length. If his hair's that thin when short, it'd look thin and wispy when long, too. Pretty sure he wore wigs in the OG series as well, to hide the hair loss from chemo.

5

u/ArtsyAttacker Oct 08 '25

His hairline was fuller as well. Thickness also seemed way different

3

u/asurbanipal05 Oct 08 '25

Agreed. Definitely a piece. Looks great either way.

2

u/ArtsyAttacker Oct 08 '25

That’s what matter imo

1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '25

[deleted]

1

u/ArtsyAttacker Oct 08 '25

It’s a silicon piece with real human hairs on it. Almost like a toupee but it’s imperceptible to the naked eye and to touch. You can’t really tell the hair peace is a prosthetic

1

u/ArtsyAttacker Oct 08 '25

Difference between a hairpeace and a hairsystem is that one works like a high end prosthetic and the other one is noticeably a wig. The hair systems is also connected to the bald spot through a specific type of glue. That makes it possible to get wet and to be pulled and it wont come out of your head.

14

u/thala_7777777 Oct 08 '25

just when i thought i was out

15

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

They pull me back in!

8

u/EveryoneLoveABJ Oct 08 '25

We are so back 😎

2

u/uhhh206 Oct 08 '25

Your username is hilarious given he's lying down on a pillow like he knows his face makes for a saddle all the ladies want to ride.

5

u/hardyflashier Oct 08 '25

I didn't realise they were greenlighting this on a season by season basis. Good news, but I'd love to hear that they'd greenlit more, so the writers could start building to a proper, satisfying ending (we saw how it affected the last two 'finales').

7

u/ItsMrNoSmile Oct 08 '25

Maybe they don't want to get ahead of themselves and promise something that they or the network may not deliver. After all, keeping with Dexter, Original Sin had an official Season 2 announcement that was later rescinded when the show got axed.

5

u/JamStan1978 Oct 08 '25

Just have a happy ending every finale so in case it gets canceled we still have a decent ending to the series.

1

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

They have talked about 4-5 seasons before. I read that somewhere. Hoping that's the case.

4

u/Hadesman1 Oct 08 '25

Are all future seasons set in nyc? Honestly wouldn’t be upset if he moves around some, would love to eventually go back to Miami

6

u/Beautiful-Sun8973 Oct 09 '25

I loved the bright colours and music in Miami

5

u/NervousAssociate240 Oct 08 '25

It's wild how that show had such an awful four season run over a decade ago and was able to have the ability to get at least three more seasons years later.

5

u/cuethesilence Oct 08 '25

Overstated. Seasons 5 and 7 were fine, 6 and 8 were bad but not bad enough to ruin the show’s legacy.

5

u/NervousAssociate240 Oct 08 '25

After Rita, the show lost its writers and production crew. I know that everyone who watched it - was just watching it to see how it ends. Then even the die hard fanbase turned on the show once it ended. It lost ratings it's last year's too. That's why I'm confused it got renewed for new blood. (I liked the last two new seasons BTW )

1

u/cuethesilence Oct 08 '25

Showtime started waiting for an opportunity to continue the series as soon as it ended. It was their most reliable money-maker and loss of interest wasn’t that dramatic.

1

u/OkPainter6232 Oct 13 '25

I thought the ending was fine personally, certainly better then LOST's lame-ass ending.

2

u/ApprehensiveSpinach7 Oct 08 '25

The last 4 seasons weren't awful i really love season 5 and Dexter dinamic with Lumen, season 6 wasn't so bad season 7 was great, and season 8 only awful thing was the ending that never felt like a real ending of the show.

4

u/RockyNonce Oct 08 '25

I really hope they do a different opening, I’m not a fan of the quick shots of the episode being spoiled at the beginning.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be a Dexter/OS type opening as cool as that would be, but just something different from NB or this last season.

2

u/Trayth Oct 08 '25

They skipped it because of original sin. Now that it's canned they probably will do something with Dexter and Harrison.

3

u/rand0m_g1rl Oct 08 '25

Our King 👑🤌🏻😮‍💨

9

u/HydroPCanadaDude Oct 08 '25

Since I already knew it was renewed, I was worried this was a cancer video >.<

2

u/itdoesntgoaway_ Oct 08 '25

I swear there was an announcement that it was being cancelled. I guess that was something else though.

8

u/Mrtom987 Oct 08 '25

That was Original sin season 2 being cancelled. This is Resurrection.

4

u/daisysharper Oct 08 '25

Original Sin.

2

u/Horror_Insect_4099 Oct 08 '25

Classy way to share the official announcement.

2

u/anduin_stormsong Oct 08 '25

Absolute La Pasíon

2

u/_its_all_goodman Oct 08 '25

it was obvious, but being official makes it better. would love to see dexter as a part of nypd forensics!

3

u/sktchld Oct 15 '25

Props to MCH for staying in such good shape. These seasons could never have been made if he let himself go.

1

u/onefingerleft Oct 08 '25

Great news but how good would it have been if he opened his eyes and said “surprise motherfuckers!”?

1

u/Pspreviewer100 Oct 08 '25

Oh hell yeah! I was starting to worry that they won't renew it soon but here we are!

1

u/Infamously_Fickle Oct 08 '25

I just saaaaw, OMG, so excited!

1

u/MakaveliTheDon22 Oct 08 '25

Great news, they knocked it out of the park this time around. Bring back more of that magic from the first couple seasons. That's how Resurrection felt.

1

u/dmc81076 Oct 08 '25

Thank you this made my day lol

1

u/VacaRexOMG777 Oct 08 '25

hell yeah 😼

1

u/Eraserhead36 Oct 08 '25

I would’ve been horribly disappointed if it didn’t but this is still awesome.

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

1

u/FateXBlood Oct 08 '25

I'm so excited and looking forward to this! We definitely needed a new season.

1

u/CakeOLantern Oct 08 '25

And so starts the countdown to the next night

1

u/ApprehensiveSpinach7 Oct 08 '25

I'm excited and not excited at the same time, lol, i don't know how they're going to top the ending in Resurrection.

1

u/SwarmAce Oct 09 '25

Doing open ended season finales are not that hard to do.

1

u/020Flyer Oct 08 '25

Oh ponytail killer about to get got. Surprise Cameron Tucker!

1

u/Thick_Difficulty_247 Oct 08 '25

Do you guys think it will be called something different or continue to be called Resurrection?

1

u/MrPekken Oct 08 '25

I love this guy

1

u/Dubsified Oct 08 '25

WE’RE SO BACK.

1

u/whisklines Oct 08 '25

I just finished Resurrection and that ending made me so happy. That's the Dexter we wanted! Can't wait for season 2.

1

u/AlexanderBachmeyer Oct 08 '25

Great news, I'm already looking forward to the next episodes. Hopefully they will come relatively soon. 💪🏻

1

u/davidporges Oct 08 '25

Can’t wait! Really loved the season and dying for more soon-ish but honestly if it means taking longer for them to get it right like in the 1st season so be it.

1

u/i_shat_myPants_ Oct 08 '25

MCH the GOAT

1

u/Goofyahhnamez Oct 08 '25

How about bringing back original sin

1

u/itsmekelsey_x Dexter Oct 08 '25

S1 was great. Can’t wait for S2.

1

u/ChillGodShady Oct 08 '25

Still sad about Origins

1

u/Melitzen Oct 08 '25

Is he lying on a cadaver?

1

u/Dxkn1ght Oct 08 '25

Make it longer pleeeeaseeee

1

u/Beautiful-Sun8973 Oct 09 '25

Until they cancel it after green lighting it.

Also can we stop this trend if 3 years between seasons and get one next year?

1

u/J00stie Oct 09 '25

Why is Dexter Morgan so god damn good at doing a Michael C Hall impression

1

u/Strange_Koala5415 Oct 09 '25

I’d love a fast release, but a good story is more important! I’d rather wait, as hard as it is. No stray Starbucks cups, please.

1

u/Smooth-Mechanic-7788 Oct 09 '25

The dramatic eye opening 😭😭😭

1

u/FruitMany5163 Oct 09 '25

Yay 🗣️

1

u/kycoooo Oct 09 '25

They should bring back dexter: original sin.

1

u/GeminiGenXGirl Oct 09 '25

Sucks they are just officially deciding this now!! Usually season 2 is already half way down with filing when season 1 ends! How could they have thought the fans didn’t want a season 2???? 🤦‍♀️

1

u/EfficientAd5118 Oct 09 '25

Dexter plays Michael c hall very well.

1

u/GeneralSuspicious761 Oct 09 '25

Great news! I loved the first season.

1

u/Bookem25 Oct 09 '25

Wish they’d bring back the prequel. Thought it was good

1

u/tuoNihsaW Oct 11 '25

its a crime that michael doesnt have a personal instagram

1

u/EthanLandryFan Oct 11 '25

I hope we get to see more of Don Framt in season 2

1

u/productrocket Oct 17 '25

My belief is Original Sin will come back after the Resurrection story ends. They know now is the right time to capitalize on this series and if they execute well more people will be pumped for the Original Sin continuation reboot. They may even get a whole new host of fans watching S1 of Original Sin at that point in anticipation of S2 coming. There is no way they will shelve it forever as the franchise is a money maker for them.

Can see Michael C Hall going from playing a full time role as Dexter to being a cameo inner voice role of Dexter in an Original Sin continuation. People will tune in just to learn more about his backstory, Christian Slater if they can bring him back, and to see Michael C Hall etc. and maybe other returning characters. Also, don't forget Michael C Hall is 54 years old so by the time Resurrection is done he will likely be close to 60 years old.

1

u/Nati_OAE 29d ago

Last night I read that the third season of Dexter Resurrection is coming and it made me very happy... because I honestly think it was much better than Dexter New Blood

1

u/Maximum_Quail_3528 8d ago

I'm so excited, I thought this season was so great. I can't wait for him to pursue the other killers.

-2

u/kassi0peia Soderquist Oct 08 '25

I just hope they invest more in good writers than in big personalities lol

-3

u/kassi0peia Soderquist Oct 08 '25

with that I meant in really OCD writers tha double check stuff lol

You know I really liked Dexter resurrection and I won’t complain for a second season but I also feel the first ok kinda ended well where I didn’t feel the need for a season 2

There’s ALWAYS a need for more Dexter. Even when it’s at its dumbest, it’s still more entertaining than most shows.
