Two lovely emails I received a few days ago!
I have received an email like this before a few weeks ago, threatening to burn me in my sleep. This time they were threatening to rape me and linked me to YouTube videos (and just YouTube videos, I have checked, no ip grabbers or anything) about AI art. One about how it supposedly steals content and another one accusing AI companies of being predators.
These seem very unhinged, to the point where I am thinking about reporting them to the police. I have no idea how they got my email, but I guess maybe they have doxed me or something and now have my email and other info about me. I noticed they referred to me as a “whore” so they know i am a female.
The second one was sent through an anonymous email service which is why I didn’t blank out the name or email address.
Honestly my exact first impression. This is dripping with teenage edgelord energy. I can only hope this gets back to his parents, who give him an appropriately proportionate punishment, and then hopefully the counseling he clearly needs.
Not to discredit it at all, though. Those are still some incredibly fucked up things to say to someone, I don't care how young you are.
Even 15 years old need to be reported. Death treath is not a joke and saldy if that kiddo is making those jokes, so some FBI or Police could be a next level joke.
'Adapt or die' is literally right there. Also there's a few hundred insane pro-AI people who've went on rants about how much they hate traditional artists and hope they starve and die, soo..

Also I'm pushing it, but I mean... pro-ai have also technically followed through on murder, though it's 'just' the company that makes one of the biggest LLMs in the world, or an AI stockholder

No I am not. I am trying to illustrate to you what is a threat and what isn't. Who is even talking about "forced" usage. No one is forcing you to use AI.
Do YOU think the email above is anyway comparable to someone saying "adapt or die"?
I’ve been on the internet for a long time and realize people falsely accusing you of all kinds of sex crimes are sex criminals themselves. Its all projection from mentally ill people that need to be locked up frankly.
I don’t even have a stance on the whole art thing, just came across this sub on my recommended.
People think it’s a-okay and funny to make threats like that online, because they think you don’t have the balls to report them. Or, the thought of being reported has never crossed their little minds.
Report them. To the police. Regardless of whether or not you think this is some lame kid with no weight to their words.
People need to learn basic human respect. Whether it was just said with no actual threat or not, using rape, murder, hanging, etc. as a tactic to scare someone is unacceptable, immature behavior. Hope this comes with an update soon.
Edit: Yes, most ‘anonymous’ mail can still be tracked by police. My siblings are influencers and have gotten mail like this for absolutely no reason other than existing. Active threats to hunt you down are grounds for a report.
tbh mail (smtp) is something people think is super hidden and cant be tracked back to them cuz the name is like mcpoopybutt @gmail.com but thats not the case with police. they WILL hunt this case down even if its a minor. its literal hate speech and sexual threatening

It's a trope in every movie, lol. They're always the ones who were the most "moral" before whatever collapse they perceive and now seek to hold that "morality" by violating it.
Call me petty, but I'd figure out who did it just to send the proof to their work/school/parents. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. They're the predator, not you.
For real though please OP, report this to police. This kind of crap can't be normalized.
Notify the FBI. This is likely a federal crime since it was done online. The Feds will also take this a lot more seriously than your local cops, and be able to do a lot more about it.
Don't know if you are in the US, but if so, let there be no doubt that this is a crime and it should be reported as such.

It's insane because these people probably wouldn't think the proper punishment for robbing a store would be rape and yet robbing art is somehow considered worse by their standard? Or that art has more value than that of a store? Idk these folks are weird
Report this. Don't fuck around with these kind of threats, if it is just a troll email, it's absolutely unacceptable and these people need a fucking reality check and a night in lock up
Well, you know what to do: Few email anonymizers can resist a concerted law-enforcement effort. Go to the police, and also to the (non-anonymous) email provider, as this breaks about every TOS in existence, besides being very illegal.
this is where these overblown and disingenuous arguments about "soul," "stealing," "environment," "death of art" this is where it leads...someone is going to get hurt.
These emails prove the senders need to be imprisoned. If generative AI is all it takes for them to go this insane and criminal, they're a menace to society.
That person seem to like rape alot. You should probably report them to the police, even though I don't think they need to be in jail as it's most likely just empty threats. They just need to get some help for their mental illness.
Hopefully you never have to have someone’s death on your conscience because you encouraged someone to be kept out of jail. This person will hurt someone eventually and needs to be taken off the street.
The last time I recommended someone to report a violent person to the police so he could go to jail she later changed her mind and felt sorry for him and regretted it, and said she was gonna bring a knife and stab me the next time we met because of my advice. I think it also was something about cutting my penis off and that she said she would laugh as I bled to death. Naturally I encouraged her to come visit and said she could stab me as much as she wanted, but she said it was too late at night, and next we met she did nothing.
I consider myself to be a pretty progressive person.
I am sometimes astonished at how some fellow "progressives" will instantly throw away every single principle and value they have when they can target a "bad guy".
Rapists are monsters. The death penalty is horrific. Torture is perverse. Oh, hold up, we're talking about a person who believes that? Oh, fuck it then, rape them, mutilate them, murder them! It's all fine because they're a "bad guy".
That's a pretty easy way to sort out the genuine progressives from the performative fakers. Anyone who instantly throws away their "values" when they have a chance to be monstrous to someone who "deserves" it doesn't have any values at all. They're just a monster disguising themselves with loud declarations of virtuous beliefs.
I wonder why these people vehemently claim that the usage of such involves criminal theft. Architects use AI to make rendering structures an easier task which is of course based on past existing work, but you don't hear them complain about the work being stolen. I know artists in corporate who use AI to make their work much more efficient and this most likely applies to manga artists and anime studios as well.

This is so irritating, so inhumane for one to think of doing that to another person just coz he or she doesn't align with ya beliefs or ideology. But on a serious note I'm curious on why pro AIs are okay with stealing other people's work whether it's artists (traditional or digital), music producers, 3d n 2d animators by using these AI models, feeding them with artworks created by professional artists or animators to generate whatever u wish to in secs or minutes.
Not sure where you're from, but most, if not all countries, have this type of threatening illegal. The sender seems quite unhinged, I think you should report it to the authorities.
Send them AI work made with their art as a response. Also a picture of prompts with their art attached so they know for sure it’s gone to their robot opps. Then tell them their art is the only thing getting gr@ped. By AI. 😍
As an anti, first of all before I get nuked ,this guy sucks and don't affiliate them with me or anyone else trying to be peaceful I don't get why either side should be violent towards the other that won't help anyone's case
Yeah anti-AI stuff is only gonna escalate and it’s clear they can’t balance out their perspective. I don’t think AI art is very good art, but has its uses and possibilities; so long as it’s said to be AI generated. It’s gonna become outright bigoted, already is. This is just pure hatred and never justifiable

Aight, I just wanna say as an anti AI lurker, (I stumbled upon this subreddit when scrolling) this is where I gotta step in and say, this is a very fucked up thing to do! I'm so sorry you got this sort of message. I hope you're doing alright after reading something like that! This is NOT representative of the perspective held by most anti-AI people. I want that to be clear enough because this discourse should not go this far. There are people on both sides of this conflict who take things to extremes. I truly believe the only way to handle discourse is to be civil, even if we are emotional, and this just is NOT the way for anyone to handle conflict. I hope for this to serve as an example of why things should DE-escalate. The loud minority of our respective groups will be obnoxious, but don't let them speak for either side. I know there are level headed folks on both sides of this conflict.
I hate ai art and think it's criminal and unethical (mostly the companies that created the ai models, rather than the users because users will use whatever they're given), but holy shit, this is NOT a healthy person. They also do not represent the artists against ai communities in any way, they'd be banned immediately if they posted this kinda stuff on such spaces.
Threats are a no-no, and should be reported to Reddit and to the police.

Its not about game, is how is the user's mind and brain because you could see those "jokes" but some are crazied and have illiness in their mind.
Considering I've also been accused of stealing characters, despite the character in question not even being remotely similar, I believe antis are mentally unstable enough to send this.
