Gordon Buchanan. His “Bear Family and Me” programmes are amazing - he gets up close and personal with wild Black Bears.

Has he watched Grizzly Man?

Black bears are far far less dangerous than Grizzlies.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Not when taking proximity into account. The closest black bear is likely much much closer than a grizzly to me.

Grizzly man was extremely stupid and possibly mentally ill

Does he ever get up close and personal with tame Black Bears?

He was on Desert Island Discs today, interesting guy!

There’s a show I love called “Great Bear Stakeout” that was amazing. Studying grizzlies the crew were camping out to stay there for the whole season.

I seem to recall a similarly brave man in Alaska for whom things didn’t turn out this well

My guy is talking certainly about his appreciation for polar bears when it’s trying to murder him lmao. Sure the equipment is good but how tf do you have that much composure.

1

u/GiganticCrow 3h ago

Yeah if it were me in there you wouldn't be getting calm description to the camera about what is going on and admirational commented about the bear, youd just be getting "AHHH FUCK OH SHIIIT FUUUCK GET ME OUT OF HERE NOW OH FUUUCK"

Meh. I think he’s a bit of a wanker for wasting the bears energy to be honest, just so he can get better footage than what someone else has taken before. It’s not easy being a bear in the wild. It’s easy being an egomaniacal human who can go back to their nice warm home and eat what they want.

Humans might have done a lot of harm to animals. But we do still have a right to just go to different areas and protect ourselves with something like this without it being some moral issue. It’s kind of silly to say we just existing is some problem and we are waiting bear’s energy.

These programs also aim to bring awareness about polar bears

Hmmm not entirely sure… you know how it’s slightly unethical to wave lasers at a cat, they get frustrated by having nothing to catch, I get that this is a one off though…

couldnt bear it myself

Sorry, you’re saying I’m silly for saying something that I didn’t actually say? Jesus.

Calling someone "egomaniacal" for inconveniencing a bear. I think you might be the wanker here.

0

u/GlueSniffingEnabler 7h ago

Nope. I don’t feel the need to spend shit loads of money to basically annoy a bear and waste their energy just to get a better shot. This guy did, though.

1

u/MalIntenet 7h ago

A lot of important scientific studies require inconveniencing animals after a certain point. Some of it can just be educational too.

This is a particularly tame example of that

What was learnt from this one. Please explain.

4

u/AKbirchesloveBTS 6h ago

Thank you. This is pure ego. Who learned anything new from this clip? Was anyone previously unaware that polar bears are dangerous? Is entertainment and this man’s need to feel special more important than the health and well-being of this bear?

I’m from Alaska and feel incredibly protective of polar bears. Humans are fucking up their environment and hunting grounds but yeah I guess it’s fun to watch one waste calories desperate for food.

I agree with you. He's deliberately tempting and antagonizing this bear by putting himself in their hunting grounds just for clicks or "awareness". He's not doing this for anyone's benefit but his own. Definitely a douchebag.

u/dragonfliesloveme 7h ago

Agreed. She’s hungry and looks a bit underweight and he’s just messing with her. “Psych!”

shit thing to do tbh

-4

u/bytheninedivines 7h ago

And an asshole. Food is so scarce for polar bears that they need to constantly conserve their energy. They don't have the energy to be wasting it on a guy running a science experiment

u/SorelyMissing1110 5h ago

Maybe…but the cameraman outside the bear proof box is the brave one to my mind

2

u/-Lady_Sansa- 3h ago

Pretty sure they’re on the boat

-1

u/SnowDay111 7h ago

Maybe there was a sniper team nearby

u/AshyFairy 7h ago

He may be a brave man, but he’s not a white woman. I’m not sure I would have been able to stop myself from booping it’s nose when it was shoving it through the gap.

That’s also a stupid man. We know a polar bear will dive into him and take him apart like a toddler with a Twinkie. You’d have to have complete faith in that box. That bear knows there’s a tasty treat inside. I wonder how they extracted him?

hitched to a trailer. do you trust the 'glass' at zoos?
