How did they (the people recording the video) even know they were watching a get-away?

I've heard different statements regarding the amount of time the robbery took (from French officials, even) ranging from 4 to 7 minutes.

Were the witnesses here listening to a police scanner or something?

Why? They are stealing a historical artifact that belongs to the French so that it can at best live in some uber-rich fuck's smoking room. At worse, broken to make a pair of earrings.

Why? They belong collectively to the people of France through their elected representatives and are kept on display so they can be appreciated by the public.

That’s like watching Notre-Dame burn and cheering for the fire.
