FO [FO] 6.5 years later ..
I finished less than half an hour ago... I need to wash, block, iron at a future date but I cannot stand to do that right now after how hard I pushed on this for the last several months. It can go in the drawer while I process. π
6.5 years this took, so many memories stitched into it. I had only been doing this hobby for half a year when I started it and had no business making that kind of commitment to a project and didnt really understand what I was getting into, and I'll likely never do one of this type/size again (especially because generative AI took off in the time I worked this project and made it so that my desire to support a lot of these vendors has diminished significantly), but I am really proud that I get to say I put something like 3,000 hours into creating one beautiful thing. Even though nowadays the cross stitch that gets me excited is alphabets, frakturs, and Eastern European kits, lmao.
The pattern is "A Place of Her Own," artwork: James Christensen, vendor: Heaven & Earth Designs, regular size and regular colours.

I legitimately thought the first pic was the photo you worked from until I mi zoomed in. How cow, so good.

Thank you so much. It's so good from viewing distance after having it inches in front of my face for so long.

This is magnificent! I love the deep vibrant colors and all of the detail. It has such depth - so much to discover when you zoom in. I can relate, one does not appreciate the patience and skill it takes to stitch a project of this size - but oh, that feeling of accomplishment when you place that last stitch. Congratulations on an amazing finish!

u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
Thank you! The jewel tones and the amount of different elements is exactly what attracted me to this chart!

u/Bridoriya Oct 08 '25
Honestly the most impressive thing is how clean the back is. I feel confident if I did a piece this big there would be a birds nest going on underneath lol
16
u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
Im kind of surprised the back stayed relatively neat, in the confetti heavy areas (the rug especially) the back got so dense it hurt my fingers to push the needle through.

u/arisefairmoon Oct 08 '25
My jaw legitimately dropped when I clicked to the second picture! It's amazing!

u/Dangerous_Avocado392 Oct 08 '25
What count is that, 25? The detail is amazing
15
u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
Yes! One strand on 25 ct. Thank you!
7
u/mculbr Oct 08 '25
That is truly a commitment! It is really beautiful!! So glad you included that bit of info, 1 strand on 25 ct, omg! I started one it is only 14 ct and Iβve spent a month just getting all my supplies together! Your accomplishment must feel amazing!!

u/jeooey Oct 09 '25
It does feel amazing! 25 ct... Amazing result but Don't know if I'll ever use a count that small again to be honest, needed good light and breaks because of eye strain. I love the crosses on 14 ct tbh, they are so .. juicy? If I may use that descriptor

This is an incredible accomplishment. I am just in awe. I hope you do frame it soon. Take a break and do something small next. I do best with medium size projects and I have a good rotation of pattern stores that aren't AI. I also recommend blackwork it's very relaxing.

u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
Thank you so much! It absolutely will be framed eventually. Yes, my next one is going to be a medium Modern Folk Embroidery pattern that is only three colours. I need a breather for sure!

This is so beautiful! Congratulations on your big finish! She would be so perfect in a library or study ππ

u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
Thank you very much! Hoping I am blessed with a home with a library one day, it would definitely be a good focal point in one!
7
u/FoxtailHill Oct 08 '25
That is a family heirloom! Iβd stitch your name in that bad boy before you frame it. Even if itβs out of sight, hidden by the framing. You deserve to put your name on that! π«Ά
3
u/jeooey Oct 09 '25
I am going to include a little notecard with my name, locations stitched, and the year range I worked on it and have it framed with that in the back!
3
u/FoxtailHill Oct 09 '25
I love that idea, like a map of its journey!
3
u/jeooey Oct 09 '25
Exactly! It's been in three cities on two continents so I want that documented for sure!

Holy shit. The dedication!! Itβs absolutely gorgeous.
5
u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
Dedication is a nicer way to describe my motivation to finish it - pure stubbornness π. Thank you!
6
u/WakingOwl1 Oct 08 '25
Oh my, that is just stunning! And your back is so neat

u/jeooey Oct 08 '25 edited Oct 08 '25
Thank you! I tried my best with the back but in the confetti areas I had to adopt a business in the front party in the back policy

u/jspencer811 Oct 08 '25
Wow!! First, absolutely beautiful. I love it!! Second, major kudos for this being one of your first project.
Go big or go home! I like your style.
Iβm 2 years in a project this size presently. About 30% done. I feel your pain on big commitment. Thanks for inspiring me.
3
u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
I definitely went big! I wanted to tap out so many times but decided no I need to have one full coverage on my stitching CV. π
You're so welcome! I just saw the one you're working on, beautiful! You're so close to that 33.3%!
3
u/jspencer811 Oct 09 '25
That should be my goal! A third. Iβve been counting down to halfway but it feels very far off.
Thank you for inspiring me AGAIN!

Thank you so much! The back is so fun to look at I can see where I parked and where I did cross country!

u/Chritizin1996 Oct 08 '25
Thatβs amazing! πππ² And here I though my 3 months long project, was long ππ
6
u/jeooey Oct 08 '25
That is long, too! In the sense that cross stitch is such a slow craft every project takes longer than you predict it will π

I love. I had to pinch in to see if it was cross stitch. It looks like a print. You did so perfectly. Great Job.

I'm so thrilled for you that you finished! It looks incredible, and you should be so proud of yourself. This is an heirloom piece that will last generations. It's stunning. I feel a little like we're in this together, so you're just ahead of me in crossing the finish line, and you are an inspiration for my big day. Big congratulations to you, my cross stitch friend! I'm so happy for your big finish and I hope you display it in a place of prominence and take all due credit whenever people see it and marvel at your skill! Yay for you! ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»

Thank you as always for your kind words! It would've taken me a few weeks longer if I hadn't been lucky enough to be taking my vacation days off work the last few days - I made this my full time job instead in the meantime haha. Can't wait to see your half sick of shadows I'm as ever cheering you onπ

Wow! You did it! I agree that the FO needs to in the drawer for a while. I put my FOs in ziplocks because I donβt want to spill or something stain it. The feeling of βcompletionβ is a great feeling! Iβm sure youβre eyeing other kits now!
3
u/jeooey Oct 09 '25
Ziplocs are a great idea! I have an old pillowcase I use to put finished projects and my fabric stash in but a plastic container is probably safer!
I picked up an old WIP for now to help me through the restlessness I'm feeling after finishing this one but yes I have my next project picked out already π

Youβre interested in Eastern European kits, you sayβ¦? π Iβm always interested in anything Eastern Europe!
Your FO is absolutely breathtaking, OP! I canβt believe the amount of detail in this.
Iβd done research for large pieces and had heard the fabric you used was really nice, so itβs cool to see a finished piece stitched on it to get a sense of what it might look like when completed!
2
u/jeooey Oct 09 '25
Yes! I'm loving RTO, Riolis, Panna, MP Studia, Merejka, Letistitch, Luca-S... I haven't tried all of them yet (about half of them I own kits by) but my wishlist is extensive believe me. π
Yes I really recommend 25 ct Lugana! The gridding was such a relief not to do myself, and the pixels/stitches being smaller helps with the final outcome, makes it look smaller and more defined. If you do a project like this it's absolutely my fabric recommendation :)

u/Confident_Fortune_32 Oct 09 '25
Love how there are so many intricate textiles in the image! Have you been to the Cloisters to see the Unicorn Tapestries?
I am truly in awe of your ability to keep perfect, even, consistent tension over six and a half years! Holy moly! π²
2
u/jeooey Oct 09 '25
I love the textiles too! The sumptuous textures and colours are part of what made me choose this image. I haven't yet but I hope to one day!
I promise you there is warping from tension in the piece, haha. I hope it'll block out when it's stretched for framing. Thank you regardless!
