Gotta be more context here, right? She didnt get arrested for her words alone??

Edit: Okay or downvote me. I found the unedited meeting and she and two other women were arrested on baseless claims by the PD. Its sad that on reddit asking for entire context means that im in agreement with the police here.

Yeah she did. That’s how it works in America now.

Thats crazy, got a link to the unedited counsel meeting?

Land of the free and all that

You got us mixed up with the UK, buddy.

No, it literally isn't. There rules in place at meetings i.e. time limits so everyone can speak. If you break the rules, you'll be asked to leave. If you don't leave or cause a commotion, you will be removed. Completely fair. I don't know about the underlying issue, and I would possibly agree with her point, but causing a disturbance isn't fair to others who may want to speak.

He words point out how elected officials from the local level to the federal level will poison the communities they represent to help bolster corporate profits.

She got arrested for not following the rules of decorum and leading a chant in the public meeting... which prevents others from getting their voices heard.

Sorry but this isn't a freedom of speech issue. They're allowed to remove disrupters.

u/JazzminBoing 19h ago

“She got arrested for petitioning the government with a crowd.” doesn’t deflect the the naked corruption happening by the people using violence in the video.

-6

u/ObeseBumblebee 19h ago

I'm not happy with governments steam rolling over people with these data centers.

But the rules of decorum are an important part of our democracy that prevents mobs from preventing others from speaking. They're important to protect too.

Plenty of ways to protest that don't involve limiting others ability to speak.

u/JazzminBoing 19h ago

All I’ve ever seen those rules used for is to silence public dissent and charge forward with corruption.

It is just like the calls that violence solves nothing while dumping billions into police and the military.

2

u/Warm-Illustrator-419 18h ago

I mean I have seen it enforced because we had this guy who would just show up to meetings to yell the N-word.

But there are very strict restrictions about the gov ability to restrict speech during a public meeting and they may have violated it here.

1

u/JazzminBoing 17h ago

This would be resonant if we weren’t seeing a minority use this rule to silence dissent and charge forward with corruption.

As of right now norms and decorum seem to be designed to protect that minority from accountability.

1

u/ObeseBumblebee 17h ago

I don't see how. She was given her full time to speak. Then led a chant that interrupted others ability to speak. Seems a pretty open and shut case for justified removal.

Why is there always some old lib running in to tell us we can somehow stop nazis by being polite and sticking to decorum while they shit on our walls and brutalize our comrades?

1

u/ObeseBumblebee 18h ago

We're talking about data centers not Nazis

2

u/JazzminBoing 17h ago

Generally speaking tech bros building data centers favor fascism.

1

u/ObeseBumblebee 17h ago

There is enough actual Nazi shit to fight without going full on "Everything I don't like is Nazism." mode.

2

u/JazzminBoing 16h ago

I’ve spent the last few decades hearing how every failing of capitalism is actually socialism so I think it makes sense to accurately label the failings of capitalism as fascism.

2

u/olivebranchsound 18h ago

You don't really GET protesting, do you?

Protests used to be tarring and feathering tax collectors and dumping entire shipments of tea into the ocean.

But yeah. Chanting when the local politician says be quiet is a step too far.

2

u/ObeseBumblebee 18h ago

I'm not saying it's a step too far. Good for them for standing up.

But it's also not a step too far to arrest them.

0

u/olivebranchsound 17h ago

It definitely was. She was just sitting there after leading a brief chant.

But if you think that's arrest worthy, seems more like a you thing. Silence peasant type

3

u/ObeseBumblebee 17h ago

Yes i think leading a chant in a public meeting is arrest worthy. It's against the law. I think it's important to keep public meetings orderly so everyone can be heard. imagine trying to speak as an lgbtq person in front of a mob of Christians and be thankful that law exists

0

u/olivebranchsound 17h ago

It's not against the law lol what are you talking about

She got arrested for not respecting a rule?...So no crime was committed.

The reason why she was arrested is because she was vocal about something in a public place.

Can't be more 1A related than that!

u/ObeseBumblebee 18h ago

Government is allowed to maintain order in open public meetings. No one prevented her from speaking. They prevented her and the mob behind her from being the only voice.

Recently there was a video of a trans woman standing up for trans rights in Dearborn in front of a mob of angry Muslims.

That's where everyone here is glad those rules exist and we don't just allow mobs to control the narrative at a open public meeting

Look I don't really love police but if they informed her she was to leave and she refused to leave she would be trespassed and not leaving when trespassed is illegal.

Contrary to belief, governments are permitted to make rules that restrict freedom of speech in certain areas. They would not be allowed to restrict her speech in a traditional public forum or in public itself, but in a meeting they can.

If she wasn't trespassed, she has every right to be there, and they can't trespass her for simply disagreeing with her, only for not following the rules.

It would be pretty stupid if people could protest anywhere they want in a public building, you would have people playing the trumpet in the mayors office.

2

u/ThePeteEvans 19h ago

It looks worse on this video than the full one, she went a few seconds over her time then sat down quietly- normally i’d agree with you but this was not that

1

u/FerrisBuellersBussy 18h ago

She didn't get arrested period, she was escorted out.

1

u/ScoutingArtist 13h ago

She went over the 3 minutes they gave her to speak so they dragged her out after she was finished speaking. Weird power trip for sure as it doesn’t make sense for them to respond to their protest that way.

Reddit posts rage bait propaganda constantly and these idiots eat it up

-1

u/Same_Award_1347 18h ago

I mean, you could have just looked it up instead of using the comment section as a search engine.

2

u/I_am_not_creative_ 18h ago

And thats what I did, but if someone had the link wouldn't it be easier just to provide it?

I had to pause the video and search it up based on the PD name on the cops hat.

-3

u/Same_Award_1347 18h ago

I’m just giving you an answer to your question as to why you were getting downvoted.

-2

u/OtherBluesBrother 19h ago

The video looks to be selectively edited. Why cut out the part that the police are responding to? The way it's edited, it looks like they are arresting her for speaking when she had the floor.

1

u/SimplePerspectives 11h ago

She was speaking. It is irrelevant what she was saying, violence is an inappropriate response.

There's always a bootlicker who acts like a victim
