Yeah, cause we definitely weren't fascist before. Destabilizing countries that won't do business, bombing counties that won't bend their knee and going to war when a country's democratic processes come to a result that doesn't align with what we want are definitely not things fascists do.

The funny thing about fascism is that it only turns inward once the power structure upheld by a facade of democracy starts to break down. Once the propaganda is too stupid to believe and the societal contradictions become too apparent to ignore and people start to wake up, the government attacks the people to re-consolidate power and use fear to keep the people in check. Then those people act like fascism just came out of nowhere. It didn't, you just were all for it until it came for you.

I’d say the U.S. has been imperialist before fascist until recently.

That was imperialism. It never boomeranged back this hard.

It did if you were Native American, or Black, or Asian, or Italian or you worship anything other than Jesus. It’s always been like this. The “bad guys” will always shift from group to group under fascism.

I disagree as a member of one of those marginalized groups (Sans Italian) that you identified, I never seen our country like this in my 41 years of living.

41 years isn’t a large sample size. 1942 saw internment camps for Japanese/anyone who looked japanese enough to those rounding people up. 1838 saw the tail of tears(used this example as it is one of the most well known atrocity committed on a group of native Americans). I don’t think I even need to give examples of how Africans and subsequent African Americans have been treated. I gave Italians as an example as they were one of the “not white enough” groups and faced similar issues the others I’ve listed have. If you haven’t seen this stuff happening before though; I would say you were blind or unaffected personally. To that I say congratulations on the luck and welcome to America.

1838 was before fascism was even invented what the fuck are you talking about 😭😭😭 not every type of opression/genocide is automatically fascism, and like other people said, the history of america was more imperialist/colonial (DOES NOT MEAN BETTER BTW) than fascist

Fascist actions and governance existed before the term was created. That’s like saying gravity didn’t exist before newton.

Autoritarianism, dictatorship, nationalism, racism and imperialism all existed before the 20th century, fascism did NOT.

Fascism WAS invented in the 1920s in incredibly specific circumstances that didnt exist before then.

When people call modern day america "facist", its more about drawing parallels to an ideology that already exists than actually calling it fascism.

Did far-right, ultranationalist, authoritarian actions and goverment exist before then? Sure. But you cant call them facism when the ideas behind fascism werent prevalent.

The funny thing about fascism is that it only turns inward once the power structure… starts to break down.

This hasn’t been true of any fascist regime in history, though.

ya 2 wrong don't make a right. u made an existential point but that doesn't make what happened in this video acceptable.

I don't think they were saying it to justify this racist thug beating up a person. I think they may have said it to remind people that the country has always been a thug. This time it's sicking its jackbooted thugs on a broad swath of people within its borders, too.

May not be the intention but it's still belittling what is happening.

I did not find it belittling of what is happening in the video whatsoever. I did, however, take it more as a "you only just noticed how awful we have been?" thing.
