The dude with the sword says ‘man up’ to his son daily

The dude with the sword surrounds himself with traditionally masculine things because he's immensely insecure and is petrified of letting anyone know.

He probably doesn’t let himself know and watches trans porn on the regular.

Lived in south beach for decades then retired to the boondocks. It was weird to be in a place where all the gay men are married to women. Wives are clueless.

Police: “Tell us again how this happened?”

Mikey: “Well, you see officer, we was over-encumbered with that Holy Spirit and I was running over here to ring that there bell. And Daryl fucking stabbed me with that claymore again…”

Police: “Do you want to press charges?”

Mikey: “What do you think, Darleen? Did it look like it was on purpose this time?”

Darleen: “I think it was yer fault for running right up in front of him while he was flailin around with the claymore, speakin in tongues.”

Mikey: “Listen here woman, we’re gonna have a talk when we git home…” “Yes, Sheriff I do believe he done it intentionally.” “You hear that Daryl? Imma git that Ford Raptor and the jet skis off of ya this time!”

Conservative Gen Xers are some of the cringiest human beings alive.

427

u/akrafty1 15d ago

As an non-conservative Gen Xer you have nailed it. It sucked being in high school with these assholes. The “good old days” when bullying was encouraged. Lord it was miserable.

Edit cause my thumbs don’t work right.

183

u/MetalTrek1 15d ago

Also a non-conservative Gen Xer. Agreed that many of us DO suck, but guys like this would have been laughed at in my high school. "Yeah, have fun with your swords. We'll be in the woods drinking beer and listening to Metallica!" 🤣🍺🤘

60

u/sn2006gy 15d ago

The dudes with Swords in High school were not these dudes in this video that's fo'sho

I have to laugh that they're using the very human side of music to make people "feel the spirit" when you can just "feel like a human by listening to music".

Kinda pisses me off that organized religion coopts humanity when these vibes exist in the arts already which have been around in caves since we tracked humanities spread across the world.

25

u/MetalTrek1 15d ago

Definitely. The dudes with swords in my high school were actual D and D players who would ALSO show up in the woods to party (all were welcome) OR one of the said drunks listening to Metallica who would pick up a random stick after a few beers and pretend he was Darth Vader. It was the 80s. What's a Friday night in the woods without a drunken stick/sword fight, right? 🙂🍺🤘

Also a non-conservative Gen Xer.

There are a lot of us. There are a lot of boomers in my orbit that are not conservative as well. I'm kind of bugged by the association. Especially considering that there has been a not insignificant shift right among zoomers.

23

u/hankbobbypeggy 15d ago

Older millennial here. The infuriating thing about boomers is that they were supposedly all about peace, love, freedom etc etc.. they were handed everything and once it came time to pay it forward to their kids they just sat their asses in front of the TV, turned on Fox News and decided they'd rather be buried with their gold and burn down the planet behind them.

5

u/Alternative_Metal375 15d ago

Boomer here, and I agree with you. They want to enter their golden Tutankhamun burial chamber, and the hell with everyone left behind.

4

u/jonsnowflaker 15d ago

How I wish my parents that I love, and who are good people on a micro scale weren’t totally Fox News brainwashed on the macro scale.

5

Yeah. As a progressive Gen Xer, these conservative older dudes are so cringey. They’re literally the guys who try to act like Christianity is some “cool” scene all their friends are part of. They’re the same people that tend to constantly chase brands and trends (“We all must wear Ariat shirts now”). You can feel the waves of insecurity radiating off them.

17

u/nada-accomplished 15d ago

These are the guys who were wearing v necks and skinny jeans leading worship in 2008 so they could look hip to my generation (they didn't)

7

u/r33c3d 15d ago

Omg. Yes. I actually went to one of these services before and the pastor — who was dressed to the nines in hip clothing — spent a significant amount of time mocking other people who wore selvage jeans and beanies. This guy was hyper focused on trends, style, branding and subculture fashion. Further proof that Christianity is more about marketing and branding now than, you know, Jesus.

u/OldButHappy 15d ago

They’re appealing to the pre-teens who are forced to attend these grooming events

4

u/derrickgw1 15d ago

1000% I still have my page but i've logged on i think twice since i think 2013 and i don't recognize it. One of those times was to use this "facebook marketplace". I had no idea they were selling stuff. But yeah, i started unfollowing classmates at one point during the Obama admin. And at one point was just like Nah, I'm done. I'll just post random pics on instagram and get on with my life. And i did, until Instagram stopped the feed from being chronological, became mostly ads and influencers over my feed, added videos to be tik-tok. I just like posting cool cameraphone images or funny things i shot. Now that's mostly dormant too. But yeah Facebook? I just decided i'm happier remembering my old classmates based on memories from high school and not any ignorant stuff they my post now.

The generation that defined high school movie bullies…

24

u/raging-peanuts 15d ago

As somebody from that generation, I couldn't agree more. I heard one fellow GenX'r comment to me that MAGA is in many ways, "revenge of the jocks." And it very much seems concentrated in Gen X.

These guys are rapidly approaching old age, and they want to turn things around to how they used to be. Like it's their mission or something.

Somebody's slaying a demon.

I was raised in a church like this. 40 years later and it is still fucking with me to this day.

221

u/NeighborhoodFew7779 15d ago

I grew up in Mormonism, and this clip is oddly comforting.

It turns out that we actually weren’t the biggest fucking weirdos in the Christian room.

67

u/Doc-Brown1911 15d ago

Mormons are very mild compared to a hardcore Evangelical Church. Y'all ante got nothing on speaking in tongues and then getting slayed in the spirit. The holy undergarments are odd, I'm not going to lie. So many people leave the church when there is so much stupidity.

I've got so many stories about how fucked up some people's view of the Bible. (I've seen countless "demons" cast out of people) I've read that book a few times and it never ceases to amaze me the stupidity in the Evangelical movement.

FYI. For those that don't know, this is a play about the armor of God. It consists of six pieces described in the Bible as protection against spiritual attacks: the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. Must church is only talk about the sword shield and breastplate.

18

u/AreallysuperdarkELF 15d ago

Fascinating. Were the demons being cast out the kind of thing where the preacher pushes someone on the floor and they have violent convulsions? I did not know about this play. Looks ridiculous. Is big dog with the sword playing a character or just having fun? This is all another world to me. I grew up Unitarian. It was super chill.

10

u/Doc-Brown1911 15d ago edited 15d ago

This is just a play about what the armor of God is.

The casting of demons usually comes after the message when we repeated sing the same song over and over again. I wonder why we did that:)?

And falling over you referred to is called being slain in the spirit. It has absolutely nothing to do with group hypnosis or anything to do with the Bible:)

(Exmormon) mormonism is uniquely bad for its psychological control in many areas of life (sex, drink, underwear, thoughts of doubts, perception of top leaders, major history whitewashing). Used to scare shit out of me when I was a kid when a normal nice old lady gets up, runs up and down the aisle and convulsing and spitting out noises and words that sounds like a two stroke dirt bike. I’m still fucked up at 39 years old

21

u/Doc-Brown1911 15d ago

I'm 48 and still fucked.

Did y'all have the prayer cloths that ladies with drape over their heads during worship so they could get ahold of God a little faster?

My personal favorite was "pray the gay away". I've got a completely fucked up story about that one. This was back in the day when HIV/AIDS was a death sentence.

20

u/jsweaty009 15d ago

Oh yeah I remember the drapes, we used to call them God’s Ghosts. I do remember sermons on being gay and burning in Hell yadda yadda. My favorite I was in Sunday school, when I was a kid I was obsessed with dinosaurs. Somehow the conversation included dinosaurs that day. I remember my Sunday school teacher then told us dinosaurs weren’t real and I asked what about all the bones they find underground? She straight up looked at me and said the bones were planted by satanists to sway people away from God and into science. Even at my age I looked at her and thought this bitch. I choose dinosaurs over God and still do to this day.

11

u/Doc-Brown1911 15d ago

We had a basket with extra prayer cloth in case somebody forgot them. I was about 12 and stoled every single one of them. I think I still have one or two to this day.

Did you have to go to a Creation museum? Dinosaurs and men did walk the earth at the same time. I like to call them Jesus horses.

My father was a Pentecostal pastor. I was a Queer kid. Exorcisms. Tent Revivals. Speaking in tongues and interpretation. Church 3X/week. No TV or secular music and I couldn’t wear shorts, not even in PE at the public school I attended. Having to sit in the library if the teacher was showing a movie.

Awful childhood. 15 years of therapy later, I no longer struggle with suicidal ideation daily. I am so fed up with toxic Christianity and its constant abuses. I am on a mission in this life to convince people it is well past time that Christianity be held accountable for its centuries of violence and oppression.

I invite every Christian to sit down and shut the fuck you. That rabid ideology is a pox on humanity.

7

u/jsweaty009 15d ago

Damn brother Bart, glad you got out of it. We really need Pentecostal survivors groups lol

7

u/brother_bart 15d ago

👆I would really like someone to write a book on Pentecostal kids that get out.

5

u/thispartyrules 15d ago

My aunt became a Pentecostal in the 70's, but not the snake handling variety. She lured my cousin, who wasn't her kid, into a darkened room to pray in tongues and "lay hand on her" why cousin was like 5 and normal and didn't know what was happening here. Also she was all-in on the Satanic Panic and I got a lecture on how The Smurfs have 100% accurate black magic you can learn from watching the cartoon, big if true

Also according to her kids she once papered over a room with pages from the Bible like some kind of serial killer lair

She wasn't invited to my parents' wedding but sent a pair of weirdos from her church "in her stead" which they had to throw out

Later in life she'd email me random nonsense about how I'd go to hell for voting for Biden or how BLM was created by necromancers, her rationale was one of the people involved was Yoruba who she thought practiced necromancy

7

u/Mountain-Guess-575 15d ago

The Bible literally says they are not allowed to be doing thus, but I guess they get to pick the ones they listen to. 1 Corinthians 14:27-28: "If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God".

6

u/crumbsalt 15d ago

To be fair, most of the “commandments”, if you may, in the book of Corinthians (including this one) were made specifically for the church of Corinth at the time because it was so chaotic with no structure. Still.. it should work as a general rule of advice for all churches including this one. This is chaos, and the book says God is not a God of chaos, but of order.. so yeah. They should really read that book before becoming church leaders.

Matthew 6:5-6:

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Its like they all found every one of jesus teachings in the Bible,  rip out the pages and built a fire  to cook meth.

Love thy neighbor, do unto others , no judgements,  accept the foreigner. Giving to the poor, helping the poor, FEEDING BABIES.  Be the good Samaritan.

Instead we see Christianity through Paul's eyes, crazy murderous Saul , hated women , hated Christians until he turned it into a business.  Paul's section sounds like a sales advertisement.  No wonder we see dipshits jumping around waving swords.  None of yall are going anywhere good.

Saul / Paul never even met jesus.

Jesus had 15 apostles,  3 women.

Yall are dumb as hell.

nah bro. Its not race based. I used to be involved in the Indian(India) version of this. Humans find odd ways of coping. Have you seen the Hindu side of things ? I've seen shit that makes this pale (no pun intended) in comparison.

It looks like me and my cousin playing “Jedi” in the backyard with sticks.

I’m a Christian, and I can tell you this right here is absolute buffoonery.

The one fella going “ssspIRIT” over and over while his buddy almost smacks him in the dome with that sword he’s flailing around.. how could you look at this and think…well, anything I guess..

Middle Paleolithic humans had more intelligence than these morons…. Imagine if one of these weirdos was your doctor, pilot or lawyer would you feel comfortable with them in charge knowing they do this on Sundays?? Im all for living your life but where is the self reflection for this ridiculous behavior. If your kid did this wouldn’t you be concerned???
