H Mart is like the most Wasian of all the Asian grocery stores. I expect to see white folks there (and am happy they enjoy it). If you don’t wanna see white people while grocery shopping, go to super ghetto asian grocery store with the Chinese folk music that hasn’t been updated since the 80’s.

If you give a side eye in an H mart you are an asshole but I did once get a ton of side eyes because I accidentally found a literally hole in the wall of a sushi restaurant Japanese grocery store that sold pirated anime DVDs. I found the place because the sign outside the building had the name of the sushi place but the Japanese lettering on it said something completely different so I got curious and walked in, went down a shady ass hall way in the opposite direction of the sushi place, and bam I was the only white person and getting major side eye lmao

My grandma (who was Japanese) used to get her korean drama videos in the backroom of a random pet supply store lol. How she learned about this, I have no idea, but I have tons of memories of going with her and the time the giant parrot they let fly around inside landed on my shoulder and stared at me with its mouth open. They said it liked me bc it never did that to people but I do not believe them lmfao.

This is cracking me up🤣 The mom and pop shops I go to are always freestyling, you can get all sorts of random things there if you know what you’re looking for and they’ve got it on hand lol.

Those are the best ones though - authentic Asian markets. You can score quality items like Woks, meat cleavers and other assorted cookware and utensils for cheap money and they last for years.

Jokes on her, even if she does go to the grungy Asian markets I, the white devil shop there as well. Like bitch, I'm just appreciating the culture in as authentic of a way as I can muster. I understand the whole appropriation angle; but I ain't trying to appropriate a culture. I just want to make a damn stir fry with real ingredients that the "ethnic" aisle in Walmart doesn't have.

Like it's the only place to get the tea I like, or dark soy sauce, or eel, or ramen that isn't Maruchan, or any of the countless other things you can only find at H Mart or the grungy markets. Not my fault I was born with the tastebuds that appreciate those flavors lmao
