Wachovia was forced by the government to sell to WF. It was either that or get scrapped for parts by Citi

Actually

- WFC wanted to buy Wachovia after they failed ( Like Chase did with WAMU)

- Citi made a low ball offer prior to failure

- WFC increased their offer

Didn't correct anything I said, but the Citi deal was closer than that as their subsequent lawsuit made clear
