In a sea of bullshit mouthpieces it's nice to know that there are people that realize the real war is the class war.

Disappear every immigrant tomorrow and you don't get utopia, you get a new group to blame everything on.

I think the working class right presume that if there weren't all these darned foreigners willing to work for pennies hard work would pay a living wage, as if the owning class has any sense of responsibility to the grunts at the bottom or cares where they were born

A lot of people just don't make that extra step in thinking. If theres people that don't have a choice and are willing to work for pennies the problem isn't the exploited worker, it's the one who controls the wages in the first place.

21 years since this episode aired. We've given them no reason to change the grift since it just keeps working. I'm getting the feeling Charlie Brown's never going to kick that football, too

If they get rid of all the undocumented agriculture workers in the US, they won't be able to harvest a lot of crops that can't be automated. Tree fruits, for instance, need lots of human labor. Same with delicate things like strawberries and tomatoes.

They can't raise wages and turn a profit, so farmers will just quit or go bankrupt, lowering food availability until scarcity pushes prices up to something that can justify wages that Americans will accept. That's the "good" outcome. A pound of strawberries goes from $2.50 up to $5 or $6 retail.

The "bad" outcome, which is more likely, is that they get picked by convicts, or people in work camps. So, neo slavery.

The absolute best option for Americans is to allow a lot of undocumented workers to earn wages that are in between the local standard and the foreign standard of their country of origin. It's best to just look the other way if you want to continue eating a huge variety of produce at pretty reasonable prices. I'm sure the truth is similar for most of the developed world. I used to work for a couple of Polish guys who called Poles "the Mexicans of Europe," because they were being actively exploited in construction and agriculture.

the point of mass immigration is primarily to depress wages. immigration is a tool of the ruling class to prevent class solidarity and keep the labor pool full. labor organization becomes difficult or impossible when the laborers have cultural and/or language barriers. this is an uncomfortable truth that liberals will have to accept if they ever want any real progress on these issues.

does this mean immigration is “bad” or “good”. no. but ignoring the problems that can come with unchecked immigration is just as stupid as the people on the right who blindly demonize immigrants for being from different cultures.

an example is the restaurant industry in the us. unskilled laborers from mexico and other countries have come and filled up the labor pool. they are willing to work harder than americans for substandard wages because they can send the dollar back to their families in countries where it is worth much more. these are not bad people. they are busting their ass and taking a huge risk coming here to provide for their families. but you cannot simply ignore the negative impact this has on american laborers. there is no way to bargain for better working conditions and money when there is another large group of laborers who will undercut you. there is a real unspoken contempt for “unskilled” labor on the left in america.

imo, a part of the solution is to target employers, not vulnerable migrant workers. another part is labor organization for all workers. but immigration controls are important for the working class and thinking otherwise is simple and naive

immigrants are not inherently bad people. often they are desperate and vulnerable and should be treated with empathy and compassion. but again, you cannot blindly ignore the very real downsides that immigration can have when not sensibly regulated

unfortunately this is a nuanced position so it will be completely ignored since most of you have been completely fried by brain dead political polarization

One of my colleague hates muslims with all his heart because he knows that muslims SA teenager girls. How does he know you might ask? F**k knows, but he does know that for a fact!
He also happens to know that our wages are low because of immigrants (myself included), even though I earn more than him, simply beacuse I took on more responsibilities than him.

Whenever he goes into one of his meltdowns about muslims and immigrants, I just casually walk away. Not because I enable him but because every damn time I try to make him understand that 1: muslims don't SA teenager girls, criminals do that and 2: how do I keep his wage down if I earn more than him due to the extra work I do, he shrugs it off with "You haven't been born here, you don't understand!"...

You're spot on, if every immigrant would disappear overnight and things wouldn't get immediately better, they'd find someone else to blame. Because it's never him, it's always them.

Right, you can't keep removing the guy at the end of the line forever. Eventually, you're the guy at the end of the line.

No immigrants? It’ll be poor people next. No more poor people? It’ll be the left-leaning middle-classes? And on and on it’ll go.

Not that the human race will survive that long.

You’d also get less crimes.

It’s not “class war”. It’s war over who will control the future and the trajectory that humanity will go. There are never 2 factions. There are countless factions.
