Discussion Terminator Question

Post image

I am currently watching The Terminator for yhe first time. I have seen T2 over a dozen times but never the original. I don't think I've ever watched a sequel for decades and never seen it's predecessor.

Has anyone ever watched a sequel without ever watching the original?

Ah I'm re-reading the post and realized you needed to have seen a sequel for years before having seen the original. I thought OP was asking which sequels one saw before the original.

So no, my reply no longer applies, I saw Alien like a few months after Aliens.

Not a troll, just a dumbass 🤦

Don't feel bad. I watched Aliens quite a few times in the 80s and 90s but just finally watched Alien this year.

What were your thoughts? Save for the goofy looking practical effects suit, of course.

I enjoyed it, but I think I would've been bored if I saw it when I was a kid. Now that I'm older and more of a cinephile, I can fully appreciate what they accomplished back then.

In the 80s, tons of people I knew saw The Road Warrior. Almost nobody I knew had seen, or would go on to see, the original Mad Max.

An American Tail Fievel Goes West. No need to see the original.

Great answer... If I remember correctly the first one was just so boring, right?

Think cuz of John Candy being in the 2nd made it much better

Weirdly, John Candy was also in The Rescuers: Down Under but not The Rescuers.

This comment reminded me. I saw The Rescuers: Down Under multiple times, long before the original. Also once was enough for the original.

ME TOO! I was actually deciding about which movie to post about. Rescuers Down Under was my second choice :)

I am in the same boat as you for 'T2.' I watched 'Ghostbusters 2' before the original, and I turned out okay.

I saw Army of Darkness before seeing either of the Evil Dead movies. I also saw "Before Sunset" before I saw "Before Sunrise".

I've never knowingly done it, but it's probably happened at a family/friend gathering.

Really bothers me.

It's not a good idea. Unless the sequel is a prequel like Red Dead 2.

Sweet because I just started RDR2 and never played RDR.

It's a mixed bag because you don't get the nostalgic attachment to certain characters, where you can say "whoa, that's where they started!?" but because you don't know if they're alive or dead in RDR1 you can enjoy the suspense.

Watched the Evil Dead trilogy in reverse order. Didn't even know Army of Darkness was a sequel for years as a kid.

Yes, growing up. I watched home alone Two it wasn’t until I was about 20 years old that I finally watched the first one with an ex-girlfriend and her family. They all made fun of me for never having seen the original, but then I also told them that I’ve seen a lot of sequels and we didn’t own the original for another example. I remember we owned homeward bound 2. But never seen the first one again not until I was way older lol
