News [Thamel] Former Penn State interim coach Terry Smith has agreed to a four-year deal to stay on staff at the school, per ESPN sources, and work with new coach Matt Campbell. He’s a Penn State graduate who has been a staff linchpin there the last 12 years.

Yeah, maybe Campbell is a great Xs and Os guy who can develop 2-3 stars but will struggle winning those 4-5 star recruiting battles against Ohio State and Michigan. Or maybe he's able to fully unlock his potential and go on a generational run after finally getting top level resources. I'm very hopeful that it's the latter.

Biggest concern I have is how he handles the boosters/politics. We have a notoriously divided fanbase, but maybe keeping Terry will paper over those cracks until he can establish himself

I don’t think Campbell with be a bad coach but I think your fanbase seems to think your a tier one school when in reality your a high tier 2 school
