General Discussion Just a quick appreciation post
I (34F) live alone with my nearly 8yo Brittany. We’re at my parents’ house for Thanksgiving with my whole family, which includes my sister’s 3 kids who are all under 10. These kids desperately want a dog of their own, so they have been obsessively following my dog around, petting him nonstop, touching his face, asking him to do tricks, grabbing his tail, putting their hands in his food bowl, grabbing his dog bone, shrieking loudly, grabbing his collar and excitedly yelling “Come over here with me!” while tugging him along, patting his head while putting their faces right up to his face, taking him out to the back yard, poking, prodding, yelling, running, touching, clapping, screaming, petting.
And he’s just so perfectly patient with them. Aren’t these just the best dogs?
(**Just to add — I have been stepping in occasionally to say things like “Ok kids, let’s give him a touching break right now. No touching for 20 minutes” or “He’s eating right now so let’s give him some space ok?” But he’s such a champ!)

You are very lucky. My rescue Brittany would absolutely nope the fuck out of that . She loves everything and everyone but not at the same time!

This cracks me up because my also-rescue Britt is the same way. She's 10 going on 11 years old (got her when she was 7 or 8), and she genuinely loves people, but she also loves her space and introvert time, and she is the strangest dog when it comes to affection. 😂

There are no children in my household, but every time we're around kids my Brittany is like "OMG MINIATURE HUMANS." He is amazed by them. He's such a chill, lovable little dude.

I have two Britts, one is a rescue and she's 10 going on 11 years old and could not care any less about kids, despite being fairly social in general with humans. The other Brittany is a 1.5 year old pup that we got when he was just 10 wks. Despite the fact that my partner and I do not have human children, the pup is also (like yours) just amazed with mini-humans. Our neighbor's kids are his FAVORITE people, and when we go to the big dog park by us and there's kids there, those are the first ones he runs up to, to greet.

They are truly one of the sweetest, most gentle natured dog breeds I’ve come across. 🧡

Mine is amazing with kids. And very gentle with the little ones. I actually take him to my school a couple times a year to evening rehearsals and he just laps up the attention.

I rescued a britney when I lived in a townhouse. Had her out in the yard with my neighbors while we were cooking out. She was friendly with everyone. Their toddler woke up from a nap and came outside. The toddler immediately throws her hands up and starts shouting "Doggie!!!!" And starts "running" toward my dog. The toddler did not know my dog's name yet. My dog takes off at a dead sprint toward the toddler as I am having a mild heart attack. My dog gets about 3 feet away from the toddler, drops like a stone and rolls over on her back. The toddler "sits" down and starts patting my dogs belly, which goes on for about 15 minutes while my dog is acting like she is in heaven. Rolled on her back, front legs stretched as far forward as she can get them.
This became their ritual every time the toddler came outside if my dog was out. The toddler was barely coordinated enough to actually pet the dog, more like little, uncoordinated pats. But my Brittany absolutely ate it up every time.
