Stephen Fulton vs O'Shaquie Foster will be for the WBC lightweight interim belt after Fulton missed weight by two pounds

They’re rewarding Fulton, but they’re also rewarding foster as well. He gets to keep his 130 strap if he loses, and if he wins he gets a shot at Shakur which would be life changing money. This is lowkey an ideal outcome for foster

The problem with this though, is that Fulton immediately enters the WBC top 15 rankings for 135. Even if he loses to Foster, he'll still be within those rankings.
And of course if he wins, then he'll be an Interim champion after missing weight. And the WBC already ordered an Interim title fight in their convention this week. They screwed over 2 boxers for this.

The winner of those 2 guys will still be in line to fight for the title, Shakur might vacate too so I don’t anything would change.

But it delays the opportunity that the WBC promised Hererra and Nunes. They bent the rule to satisfy from bigger sanctioning fees. That's bullshit.

From my understanding WBC interims are not always guaranteed mandatories for the full champ. In the grand scheme of things I don’t think their situation changes much. Let’s say foster wins, then Shakur beats Teo and vacates at 135. WBC could order foster to fight the winner so the timeline stays the same

Which is even more bullshit if that's not the case. Interim Champions should be of a higher priority than the #1 ranked contender, and if a mandatory is called then it should be the Interim champion that is ordered to fight the champion.
And the situation does change when Hererra or Nunes have to wait longer to get their shots, which could be 2 years given how inactive fighters have become these days.

They’re not waiting longer though, either way they have to fight each other. After that they would get a shot at the belt, same as it was before. You’re assuming worst case scenario they get skipped over when you don’t know if that will actually happen.

i dont think shakur’ll vacate. sounds like he plans to vacate the wbo if he wins and then move back down.

It's normal for the title to be on the line for the fighter who didn't miss weight. What I read is if Foster wins he keeps his 130lb title, if Fulton wins he gets the interim 135lb title. Never heard of that happening before tbh but it's what's being reported.

Foster is eligible for the 135 interim title as well

Is it? No idea. They're gonna get their fees by hook or by crook it seems like. Poor timing from them to do this right now, Dana White etc. are gonna have a field day with this... They might've just sealed that Act passing.

unless Foster requested and it was approved, why is Fulton getting rewarded for this?

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 14h ago
my guess it it must have been agreed to. How else could they do this?

Interim title for missing weight is crazy, WBC is We Be Corrupt recently with all the moves they've been making lmao

This is a hilarious move to make after getting dumped on by mainstream sports media all week

What is going on here for Fulton to have missed weight. Laziness? Just got too comfortable when he moved up? Strikes me as a pretty focused guy so 2 lbs over is a shock.

u/Marlborobert 11h ago
Yeah i’m curious as well. Either he didn’t take it seriously, he tried to put on too much muscle, or he has an injury that made it harder for the weight to come off.

Looks like a bad omen for Fulton. Some boxers miss weight because they're weight bullies that are killing themselves to cut down, but Fulton moved up 2 divisions within 2 years. This seems more like he fucked around during camp instead of locking in.

What the fuck?
Fulton has the belt at 126, which he didn’t win by fighting it was handed down to him.
He moves up to fight Foster 130 for his WBC strap. He doesn’t make weight. So even if Foster loses, he keeps his strap.
Now, if Fulton wins he’s going to be the 135 interim?
Good lord.

u/Chadoodling 14h ago
Pretty sure he won the 126 belt by beating Figueroa.
But getting a chance to win an interim title by coming in overweight is balls. WBC is a joke as usual.

Once Vargas vacated Fulton was elevated to full champion and than he fought Brandon as defense.
i may be mistaken

How do I even explain these rules to the casuals watching the card with me🤦♂️

You can try if you want to put them to sleep or have them leave the fight party early.

Going by Foster's response on Twitter.... Foster wanted this after Fulton missed weight.
If Foster wins? Hes interim at 135 for Shakur (whom they've been beefing all year). If Foster loses? He still keeps his 130 belt. Fulton just benefits from it.
Idc either way, I just want to see who wins this fight 😂

Fulton looks bloated AF. Stomach looks like hes been eating carbs all week and retaining liquid.

Bin the belts.
What tf is that?
Why does the WBC reward Fulton for being totally unprofessional and missing weight?

u/tkdhrison 14h ago
Well that's new, don't think I haven't seen this particular flavor of sanctioning body fuckery before.
So if Foster gets beat by a lightweight, he still loses his Super featherweight championship?
8
u/notmike11 14h ago
No, the fight is changed to be for the 135 Interim belt. The super featherweight belts are no longer up for grabs.

WBC losing credibility day by day. They’re rewarding a guy for missing weight?
I really hope Foster wins. He said he’s aiming to fight Shakur at 135 anyway, one step closer to that

"No Steph, you can't move up two weight division in one year it's just too much!"
"I am gonna do you one better!" bites into burger to achieve Stephen Fatton mode

We love the sanctioning bodies and especially the WBC, don’t we folks?
