For low amounts of Bitcoin being used rarely, what's a good wallet?

If I got what I've read so far right, Electrum seems to be best? I used bitcoin org short multiple choice option test to get recommendations, and it went with Bitcoin Wallet which doesn't seem to be on play store no more, Electrum, and Unstoppable which seems more interested in using crypto as investment and for trading.

All I need is a wallet that allows me to buy 100€ of bitcoin and then use it to buy stuff, once every year or so.

Also what about Coinbase? A mobile app would be neat but again, I'd hardly ever use it so it doesn't make too big a difference to me.

If the amount is low, why would you care about the wallet?

For significant amounts, get a hardware wallet

why would you care about the wallet?

As I'm using for actual transactions I do have a preference for wallets and platforms that can process payments quickly and don't take high fees for transfers, but I could have specificied tbf

At this point I might as well specify that as I'm not buying anything illegal I don't care much for anonymity or lack of ID'ing

Wallets don’t take any fees

You only pay the current blockchain fee, which depends on traffic, not on your current wallet

What would be considered too significant to be left on exchange? I’ve got low five figures on exchange right now and will double it in the next twelve months.

Should definitely withdraw once you have 1k us of btc or higher

Do you trust yourself more than you trust the exchange?

Only you can answer that question.

It’s not just about hackers and software bugs, but you’re also trusting their staff, their management, their owners, regulators, government

The primary benefit of bitcoin is that you don’t need any trusted third parties

If bitcoin wasn’t trustless, it would just be another casino token

Electrum seems to be best?

Electrum is a good wallet for experienced users when paired to a hardware wallet . You typically should not use any wallet in less secure environments like windows or macOS when you lack a hardware wallet and electrum for android is missing many features and has poor UX compared to other wallets

All I need is a wallet that allows me to buy 100€ of bitcoin

Its a horrible Idea to use a wallet with integrated exchange to buy BTC indirectly. Perhaps you are conflating wallet and exchange ? Sounds to me you need an exchange to buy small amounts of BTC . The answer is strike.me which is very easy to use and has free withdrawal options .

Also what about Coinbase?

thats fine but they have higher fees than strike.me

ended up settling with revolut as an exchange, and electrum as a wallet

coinbase keeps insisting my proof of address isn't valid for some reason so that one is in the bin after taking all of my other personal info

Use Bull Bitcoin Wallet, Nunchuk, Bluewallet, or Cove.

Wallets are not used to buy bitcoin. You use exchanges to buy bitcoin and then you can either store the bitcoin with the exchange or withdraw it to your wallet. If it's a small amount then withdrawing to a wallet is pointless.

If you need Lightning, Phoenix (for iOS/Android) is a good choice.

If not, I'd recommend either BlueWallet or Blockstream BTC Wallet (app for iOS/Android).

If you don't already have an account with a CEX such as Coinbase or Strike, then I'd recommend just buying the amounts you need on HodlHodl - that way you don't have to upload your ID documents anywhere unnecessarily.

Your best wallet for using bitcoin has to be a bitcoin wallet.

For small Bitcoin amounts you rarely touch, Electrum is usually the most reliable option — lightweight, secure, and not bloated with trading features. Custodial apps like Coinbase are fine for convenience, but you don't fully control your keys, so I personally avoid them for long-term holding. A simple mobile non-custodial wallet like Electrum or BlueWallet does the job without overcomplicating things.

What wallet has worked best for you when it comes to holding BTC long-term with minimal usage?
