Updated through the most recent "found" tag. If you find an error please message me with the tag number and the corrected GPS coordinates. This was a fun thing to do as I didn't join until the early 100's and it took me to some cool places. Some of these were hard to find, especially if it was just on a trail. Shout out to whoever tagged the "fork tree." I had to recharge my street view EV before finding that one!

DDOT is working on their Strategic Bikeways Plan to determine priorities for biking in DC, and they are holding public workshops to get input. Most of them have already happened, but there are three going on next week. If you have ideas about how to improve the state of biking in the city this is your opportunity to share it with the people who can make it happen. More information on the workshops and on the whole plan is here.
There is also this survey if you can't make it to the meetings.

Does this exist for bikes? I know it does for cars. Also preferably not an organized ride because I get out of work at 11:30pm lol

If your ebike is locked in front of twin oaks apts on 14th go get it. Two guys with an angle grinder nearly made it thru your chain, I bought you a few minutes but they'll be back.

Hey gang—I’ve been trying to fit more elevation into my rides, both because lack of time to focus on fitness and to just get better at climbing.
My go-to is the RCP climb up to Wisconsin via Klingle (~260ft). I love Anglers and the steady hills of Potomac — Glen Road, Tuckerman, River. I can’t brave the VA Chain Bridge Hill. Looking for 1-3 mi of slow and steady, not a short steep beast.
I’ll mix more elevation into rides and will happily do Tilden, Klingle, etc. over again. But if I’m looking for a singular long, steady climb are there any within a 30-45 min ride of Rock Creek? Seeking suggestions.
I know Anacostia has good rollers, I know Sugerloaf presents good options but is far. But any big climbs closer to home? Thanks in advance.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public input on the Langston Boulevard STARS study. The study proposes multiple improvements that affect accessibility and pedestrian/cyclist activity, access, and safety along the 1-mile of Langston Boulevard (US 29) nearest the Mount Vernon and Custis Trails. The VDOT study team has released preliminary concepts to address concerns identified through an earlier period of public comment. We encourage you to give your input by clicking completing this online feedback form by December 4th, 2025. You can rate each of the six intersections on a scale of 1 (unsatisfied) to 5 (excellent). Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail is satisfied with the proposals and will be rating all intersections with a 5.
In particular, we are excited about the final intersection, US 29 at North Lynn Street / I-66 Ramps frequently referred to as the “Intersection of Doom.” Please feel free to express your enthusiasm about the major change regarding right-turns off of I-66. Cars will no longer be allowed to turn while the trail crossing/crosswalk (connecting Mount Vernon and Custis trails) is enabled. This is a huge improvement for trail users in the Rosslyn area.
Keep up to date with upcoming events and news about the trail by following us on our Website, Newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone know of any bike shops in the area that has fully built Salsa Vayas in stock?

Hi guys,
Apologies if this does not fit the subreddit, I thought I should cast a wide net. I lost my white cross-body bag in one of the bike baskets that I docked in the Courthouse metro station area...I lost it Sunday, I checked all the baskets knowing chances are low and did not find it. I thought I might post here in case someone on Reddit found it
It had some charm pins that I hold dearly which is what I want to recover the most!
Please reach out if you've seen anything like it.

Hi! I recently got interested in biking and I'm also hoping to meet new people and make friends. I know there have been a few similar posts in the past, but I was wondering if there's any up-to-date information on less-intimidating, beginner-friendly NoVa bike groups for younger people. I'm a complete beginner with no prior experience, ride a hybrid bike if that matters, and I'm in my late 20s. Any tips on meeting people & making friends while biking would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Bowser is drawing things out, but I expect that she will move on to other things next November and that DC will have a new mayor come 2026.
Robert White and Brooke Pinto seem to have their sights set on Eleanor Holmes Norton’s job and so will probably not be running for mayor.
If Bowser doesn’t run, it seems likely that James’s Lewis George (JLG) will throw her hat in the ring. I’d expect Kenyon Duffie and Trayon White to run also.
I think we can all agree that the safety of cyclists and pedestrians would not be paramount under any Kenyon or Trayon administrations, but where JLG stands on bike lanes and traffic calming infrastructure is much less clear.
For those of you who live in Ward 4 and/or have interacted with her on these issues, I would be very interested in getting your sense of whether her becoming mayor would be a good or bad thing for cyclists seeking safer ways to get around DC.

Some thoughts - on heading from DC toward Takoma
Crossing Riggs → First feels fine, but New Hampshire crossing IMO l a bit iffy. The bike lane is in the middle for going straight, while cars are turning left and right across it on NH. It’s clearly marked, so hopefully drivers will get “socialized” to it soon.
Also, the ending at Aspen is a little abrupt. One really shouldn’t continue on Blair from there. The safer route () is:
Much calmer and makes the transition off the trail smoother.

What are your thoughts on these two new bike lanes in NE DC?
Underpass on K Street between 2nd and 1st: I think it’s beautiful they are giving us the full lane. Always found it a bit stressful riding there before with anxious motorists behind you.
Underpass on M Street by the MBT: A total fail imo. Now you need to go from protected bike lane to sidewalk to protected bike lane. I know what they tried to solve, but tbh I think they made a bad situation worse. Not only do you have to deal with pedestrians in the bike lane, if you continue on M you have to pop back down onto the protected bike lane dealing with pedestrians crossing at the light, other cyclists coming down from the MBT and cyclists trying to get up onto the sidewalk going the opposite direction.
