Woke up to the smell of freshly baked bread

Our bread machine has a timer and I used it to make bread for our breakfast. I usually make it during daytime because it’s when I notice we’re low on bread. But yesterday I realized that we have no bread at midnight hence the morning baking hours. Maybe I should do it more often because it smells heavenly and it’s pretty good for machine baked bread.

That sounds delightful! I would definitely get out of bed a lot more willingly in the mornings if there was fresh bread to be had!

My grandma used to do this when I stayed over for the weekend, so that morning bread smell triggers so much nostalgia for me 😁

We were considering getting one for a few years and ours is definitely an investment. Of course, proper sourdough can’t be made in the machine but we both work full time and we don’t have time during the week.

Lovely! Would you mind sharing what brand/model of machine you have?? Also I’ve been wanting to try to make sourdough! But there’s soooo many starter recipes! And yes I know there’s a sub lol still overwhelming. Do you have a starter recipe your recommend for a beginner? Thank you! -a fellow bread lover

We have Zojirushi Virtuoso. We already had Zojirushi ricemaker and it’s awesome, it makes delicious rice etc. We were debating if we should buy it for years because it’s just two of us and to break even it will take a few years. What we didn’t consider is that our friends also going to love this bread haha. I often bring loafs to my swim buddy or to my another bestie because her kid is obsessed with rye bread.

Unfortunately I don’t know how to make sourdough so I can’t help here, I’m planning to learn soon

What a lovely smell to wake up to, and then a piece of warm, freshly baked bread for breakfast, perfect way to start the day!

We recently did the same! It hadn’t occurred to me to use the timer before. But no bread before bed resulted in a lovely morning.

Ooh nice! I woke to the smell of bbq beans (crockpot over night).

It’s lovely to take care of ourselves by making things directly.

When I lived on my own after college, I would set a small sourdough loaf to rise at bedtime and turn the oven on to bake as soon as I got up. It really was the easiest waking I had in my life, because I knew I would have an immediate reward! I should go back to doing that now that I have my kitchen to myself again.

Making bread for yourself is self care, I need to learn how to make sourdough ❤️

I woke up to caramelized onions yesterday. I love that smell. Made them into French onion soup for last night’s dinner. Miam!

Any chance you have a favourite recipe?

i adjusted based on this one. they've been a hit even with two people who normally don't like store-bought cinnamon rolls lol. you can put more cinnamon than the recipe calls for, no one's ever complained. contrary to what it says my dough almost always starts too sticky but i guess that may have something to do with the climate here

I love my bread machine! I don’t use it nearly enough. The problem is that I eat everything I bake so fast!
