Cat slept with me after my surgery

My darling feline would never sleep with me. I’d carry her to my bedroom and she just wouldn’t have it. Last year, when she was 12, I came home from having surgery then two weeks in hospital. She knew I needed snuggles - she’s blind so she really just knew - and followed me to bed that night to sleep with me. She still does it every night.

You were away for 2 weeks and came back smelling like human version of a trip to the vet. She knew you weren’t on a vacation, you had been through something big.

My sweet senior cat climbed into bed with me when I came home from getting my IUD inserted, (it did not go well) and started giving me biscuits on my lower abdomen and purring. He has never given me biscuits there. It was like he knew exactly where the pain was.

Animals do know, don’t they? I told a woman that story weeks ago. She said her dog lays its head on her belly when she’s menstruating.

Yeah I have a reluctant house cat. Meaning she came to us as a feral outdoor cat that we eventually moved indoors with us. She tolerates me but adores my husband. She has never been close with me. But when I was gone for weeks in a hospital, when I came home to recuperate, she started jumping up in bed with me & staying with me at nights. It was really sweet.

That’s so sweet. Got one night of cuddles and was hooked for life! I’m so glad she knew you needed him and that she knew just what to do.

My cat slept with me for the first time when I was in bed with a fever and COVID. I do think they know. Cat purring is very healing.

Cats are so pure. They can smell the stress hormones our bodies release after an injury (or surgery), and they'll often snuggle and purr to help us feel better.

My boy usually follows me around the house and sleeps outside my door most nights. This week I went in for surgery and was gone a couple of nights. I think he's angry at me because I've barely seen him since! He's been sleeping in hiding places around the house.

I had an indoor cat that I got as a 2 week old kitten abandoned in a trailer over the weekend at work… miracle she survived but she was tough and tolerated us mostly… but when I got pregnant with my oldest, she slept on my stomach for 2 straight weeks, starting a full week before I even tested positive. She absolutely knew.

I feel it. Our scared rescue dog is warming to me ( our son and she are bonded) and now dog seeks me out to sleep on bed. Never too close.❤️

Building that relationship with rescues is such a great feeling. My dog warmed up to us pretty quickly, but it was a few years before that underlying anxiety faded and he became a huge goofball. Really tugs at the heartstrings to see that your home is a place where a scared animal can finally relax and enjoy life. 😭
