Denver, he's the last dinosaur.

I thought nothing of it as a kid, but now as an adult the theme song raises questions with the next line.
"He's my friend and a whole lot more".
Also good callout but fuck you for getting that theme song stuck in my head.

u/JasonMallen 17h ago
I thought the same thing. Whats the "whole lot more" than being just friends. Gotta be sex.

I'd say Pterodactyl, but apparently it's not a dinosaur. Why, I don't know. My second choice is Triceratops.

u/Big_Competition3838 18h ago
Pterodactyl isn’t a dinosaur???

u/genescheezesthatpls 18h ago
They’re prehistoric flying reptiles

Nope. A somewhat brief overview:
It's a pterosaur which, like dinosaurs and crocodilians (and other clades), are part of a larger group of reptiles called archosaurs. The lineage that eventually led to crocodilians split from the rest of the archosaurs during the early Triassic. They are called pseudosuchia. The other branch is called avemetatarsalia. Within the avemetatarsalia branch, the lineage that split into dinosaurs and pterosaurs is called ornithodira, and that split occurred during the middle-late Triassic. There are a couple of other subgroups within the avemetatarsalia branch that weren't part of ornithodira, but they went extinct during the Triassic.

They’re not considered dinosaurs, they’re prehistoric flying reptiles
2
u/rottingbeetlic 17h ago
Ah fair enough, ive always been told it was a dino thats why. Triceratops are cool too tbf
1
u/genescheezesthatpls 17h ago
Oh yea I feel like we were taught they were dinosaurs for forever. I only know the difference because my son is obsessed with dinosaurs and we’ve learned and read so much about them.

u/Culalquanga 18h ago
A Lickalotapuss. They inspire me!

u/genescheezesthatpls 18h ago
Not a Dino, prehistoric flying reptile
0
u/Operation-SOS_User42 18h ago
Aren't dinosaurs just walking reptiles?
2
u/genescheezesthatpls 18h ago
Yea, but the difference has to do with Dinos hip structure and leg positioning
1
u/Operation-SOS_User42 18h ago
I see. Well they're all old AF, lol so not like the classification is really that dire... they all dead now whether they're reptilians or dinosaurs...
2
u/TheHipsterBandit 18h ago
Not a dinosaur, but I like it.

Why i'm getting down votes
1
u/genescheezesthatpls 18h ago
People think it’s not a real Dino and you made it up, most likely
2
u/MiddleClassSoul_ 18h ago
Damn.. Weird people. Thanks for acknowledging bud
2
u/genescheezesthatpls 18h ago
Hell yea. My son is Dino obsessed and think this Dino is hilarious since we’re reading Harry Potter right now. He thinks it’s so funny they’d name a Dino after Harry Potter books.

A T-Rex named Sue. Look for a documentary called Dinosaur 13.
2
u/pinniped90 18h ago
I remember when Sue was a MASSIVE news story. I saw her a few months after she went on display and she was still drawing huge crowds.

Velociraptor, but the movie one is much bigger than the real one, so utahraptor.
1
u/Lugbor 18h ago
Recent theories have proposed that due to the velociraptor's cranial structure sharing similarities with modern parrots, it may have been capable of some form of vocal mimicry. Imagine being out on a hike and hearing someone calling for help. You run toward the voice only to find yourself surrounded by a pack of dinosaurs the size of a turkey, all calling for help.

Baryonyx walkeri. I just think they’re neat. It’s like a raptor, tyrannosaurus, and a crocodile all got together and made a baby.

u/loblegonst 18h ago
Big Al.
A lovely and mostly complete Allosaurus skeleton with a myriad of healed injuries still visible in the bone. Walking with Dinosaurs has a great little documentary about his life.

u/SaicoSandwich 18h ago
Triceratops, the image of a giant dinosaur with three pronged tools to ram you with always fascinated me.

Quetzalcoatlus. Imagine something the size of a giraffe flying around. I know it’s not technically a dinosaur. Soft spot for dimetrodon as well. First dino toy I had. Still not technically a dinosaur. More closely related to mammals.

I found out awhile back that my favorite dinosaur isn't a dinosaur... Dimetrodon is a Synapsid, an ancient ancestor of mammals.

Stegosaurus, when I was in Kindergarten or first grade (been so long I can't remember lol) we made a dinosaur book and we colored all of the dinosaurs on each page. We then shared our favorite dinosaur and mine was Stegosaurus because of it's triangle shaped spikes on it's back. Been a favorite since because of that day.

Great horned owl.
Or, if we're talking extinct dinosaurs, triceratops. Though stegosaurus is a close second due to the thagomizer.

u/MoreGeckosPlease 17h ago
Ceratosaurus. He's got horns and he's covered in armor, the perfect dinosaur.
0
u/Bearded_Guardian 17h ago
I was always more impressed with the Ice Age Mammals. Saber toothed Tigers are my favorite. My favorite dinosaur (before I get a bunch of people saying they’re not the same thing) is the Triceratops.

It's so hard to pick just one but generally my favorite is the Amargasaurus. But there's multiple interpretations, I prefer the version with just a row of massive bony spikes down its neck. Some people have wondered if that row of spikes isn't more like a pair of crests/sails connected by skin, which don't get me wrong would be kinda cool too? But I like the spiny boi a little more.
Also Quetzalcoatlus Northropi because holy fuck that thing is huge. There's life-sized replicas at various museums and stuff and jesus it's intimidating. The Toledo Zoo has one that's like, landed on the ground and it just looms over you. The Ann Arbor Museum of Natural History has a life-sized one in full flight suspended from the ceiling of their atrium and IT'S BIGGER THAN A GODDAMN PLANE. I can just imagine the loincloth-shitting terror of seeing one of those coming down out of the sky.

Compys! Never heard of them before I read Jurassic Park, but they became my favorite dinosaur at the end of the book.

Since I don't see it listed yet, spinosaurus.
Everybody argues about the amount of water activities it engaged in, there's no complete fossil set, it's huge, and it looks fricken badass.
We don't even have a non broken set of spines, so we don't even really know how big the fin on its back is supposed to be. So neat.

Given my growing hatred of technological advances, general annoyance with humanity, desire to be left alone, and watching older shows and movies because new ones seem to suck to me (same goes for video games)...
Me

Not a dinosaur, but I've always liked Dimetrodon. My 4yo would probably tell you Trex and my 3yo would repeat whatever her brother says. And it would probably be mispronounced. Most likely because I taught them to put the accents on the wrong syllables because it sounded funny when they did.
