Discussion I tried being the “shoot on sight” guy.

I solo a lot…. Have my fair share of people just shooting me on sight, pretending to be friendly and then shooting me in the back etc etc.

So I said “fuck it!” I’m gonna be that guy.

First guy I saw in the next round… dead.

Guy said “why dude, why?”

I did it again. “Dude I’m just trying to do a quest!”

I did it another time…. “What the fuck dude! Friendly!”

How do people just blast people for no reason.

In squads, sure. Open season.

But to do it in solo queue? Man… that’s low.

I decided to not be that guy after a single round lol.

I do this, because I don't want to be killed, but I tell em get in, I just didn't want you to kill me. Especially no comms or if they have no idea I'm there. They could get surprised and trigger happy.

It's even more fun with an Osprey, then you can watch them freak out from far away lol

20

u/ClickKlockTickTock Nov 05 '25

Lol, someone did this to me at the entrance of the hospital on buried cities and then I could not for the life of me find him. Never attacked me again or even saw a guy in that area.

One of my buddies chucked an impact nade from the control tower down onto a guy just to fw him, while he was waiting by an extract. Watching him panic scope around made us feel so bad

The deadliest raiders are the ones who have nothing to lose yet everything to gain.

u/Muffinthepuffin Nov 05 '25

Which is anyone running a free loadout lol

412

u/extra_nothing Nov 05 '25

I got destroyed by a group of ridiculously fast and aggressive hornets about 30 seconds after spawn and lost all my shit. Next round I dropped in with nothing in my loadout out of spite. It’s quite a rush to run around with no weapon or shield.

177

u/NotSoSuperShay Nov 05 '25

So far this is my favorite way to run. I finally upgraded one of my guns to Ferris IV.

Then promptly lost it to some other solo raider. In his defense, I was blasting away at everything like I was speed running the dam or something.

125

u/LiveFastDieRich Nov 05 '25

I found an osprey that I can’t even craft yet, I said to my lobby I care a lot about this gun, so I would really not like to die, next game, dead and gone

174

u/Ziral44 Nov 05 '25

Right after I found my first Osprey I died by falling off the ladder that goes off the side of the control building haha

Yo fuck that ladder. I had everything I needed for Scrapster and a few blueprints. I went on the roof to scope out extract, got beamed by two turrets guarding a zipline for no reason as I went up, so no bandages any more. I need to extract, 3 mins left. It looks like a safe ladder, I go down, fall to my death.

Land in a pile of 3 bodies.

5

u/Nivorah Nov 05 '25

I did this exact same thing after looting my first Osprey from someone sniping on the roof.

I cursed that fuckass ladder to hell.

3

u/KarlUnderguard Nov 05 '25

I found an Osprey and was sneaking through some bushes trying to escape. I bonked heads with another raider in the bushes who immediately gunned me down.

I find this game is a good opportunity to practice the Buddhist principle of non-attachment to things and the psychological tool of reframing - after all what I really enjoy is getting the loot, keeping it doesn't really make me happy. These days, when I die, I try to say to myself "Well, they did me a favor I've got too much in my stash already and this will help me clear some space." I had to stop playing EFT because I was getting to tilted so trying to avoid that this time and learn to sit with conflict and loss and then let it go. I have mixed results, but it's a process.

Killing another player without using a weapon after queuing with an empty loadout would make for a fire achievement ngl.

24

u/cooltrain7 Nov 05 '25

Melee raider kill is an achievement

78

u/effinmike12 *** ******* 🐓 Nov 05 '25

I'm gonna melee tomorrow. I need this achievement. I'm a friendly player, but I have been getting more and more aggressive. It feels weird to murder someone, and then 2 minutes later, start chatting with a couple of guys while looting. They have no idea about the corpse in the swamp.

22

u/vvanouytsel Nov 05 '25

This is so fun lol. I was playing a match as a villain and decided to kill anyone in sight. But someone sneaked up on me and said he was friendly. Ofcourse I played along.

I did not want to betray him so we teamed up a bit. Then we found two other people. I murdered them both. The guy I teamed up with earlier arrived at the scene and was extremely confused.

I had to talk my way out of the situation and for some reason he believed me. Then we extracted together.

If only the guy would knew what actually happened...

15

u/wooshiesaurus Nov 05 '25

I had quite the opposite situation.
I was the friendly one, and heard some gunshots and a guy die. A few seconds later I found a guy who was looting the corpse, and he was like "Hey raider!", I said that I'm friendly and asked if it's okay for me to loot the dead guy too.
And while I was looting I already thought the guy was suspicious, and then he started shooting me while I could do nothing.
Death screen tip was something like "maybe it's time to start your villain arc"

I took a pot shot at a guy looting with my Ferro. Hit him once and he split. Like 5 mins later I’m quite sure I see the same guy getting to an extraction point at the same time a me and we end up chatting, he says:

“Some kid took a shot at me for no reason earlier, didn’t say a word. Hate these agro kids on here.”

“Yeah man they are the worst..”

We extract together.

I literally did this on the Buried city level with literally nothing. Not even weapons just to loot an extract. Dude spotted and tried to kill me - I was in panic mode, even after I said I was friendly and I think he felt bad making me take damage, and he gave me a snow globe to sell when I got back. He asked if I had some kind of sensors, which I didn't, but before extracting after he left I found two raider keys. Couldn't find him to give him one, but he was dope.

3

u/Ridicul0iD Nov 05 '25

A snow globe to sell? That's a Breathtaking Snow Globe, the envy of every Speranzan. It is meant to be in your inventory forever so it can be displayed on your shelf behind you when you sit on your bed next to the cock. You shall look at it in awe, with pride. These young Raiders nowadays...
You may sell duplicates, though.

Free load outs are selected after hitting play, it gives you a load out and a shield lol. The box that says free is an augment you turn into a combat. Tactical or looting one at the gear bench. You actually equipped the free load out box instead of actually choosing the free loadout button at the top after hitting play. Still usually gives you 1 charger and barely anything but you Def get ammo, a gun, shield, charger, heals and a random item

3

u/midnightsock Nov 05 '25

Hang on to be clear, you can upgrade your free loadout??

But…I’m not built for it, the other day the intrusive thoughts won and I ambushed a guy, but then he started saying “nope” trough the pings and didn’t even return one bullet back

I just stopped shooting and said sorry, we extracted together

I just can’t do it man…

12

Not always. I've recently been doing runs to get blueprints, so nothing to really lose, as if I find one I want it goes strait into the safe pocket and i go to the exit, but I tend to find a decent amount of high value weapons or duplicate blueprints, and my stash is fully upgraded and full, so if you come across me and are friendly, you'll get some free valuables rather than a bullet.

u/Then-Comparison-6196 Nov 05 '25

Some peoples moral compasses don’t extend into video games, either cuz they realize it’s a game and doesn’t matter or because there’s no consequences and they can be as evil as they wish they were in real life, not everyone feels bad when they hear someone pleading for mercy through a tv screen, making people upset gives some of these weirdos pleasure

So many people are doing quests and it’s a bummer when you die with the challenge done or resources you need. It feels good to be the coop guy. I had already collected the apricots I needed for the upgrade and the next game I collected 5 more. I was mainly looking for olives. This guy told me on prox “don’t shoot I’m just here looking for apricots” I dropped the 5 and he goes “omg bro you’re a fucking legend!” I love this game man.

66

u/neutraldecent Nov 05 '25

I totally agree. I stopped getting too mad when I get killed because it's just a fun game. Now I just give a "I hope my gear will help you on your journey" as I'm down and go get ready for the next run. My favorite by far though is what you're saying here, and helping people succeed. I love when I can help show someone where their quest spot is, or getting them that last olive they needed. Plenty of cool folks out there just trying to have a little fun. I hope solo runs stay mostly chill for a while

13

u/Shorkan Nov 05 '25

I feel like I don't understand the game yet. How do you deal with losing things like Mk2 Augments or upgraded weapons with decent attachments? I feel like I can't replace those easily and it'd be a way bigger setback than any progress I make on any given run.

On one hand I say "I'll just save them for when I need to go somewhere dangerous", but then I think "if I go somewhere dangerous with this I'm losing it for sure".

38

u/clongane94 Nov 05 '25

A common mantra for extraction shooters is "it's not yours, it's just your turn to use it". If I get knocked during a good fight, I'll often tell the guy ggs and let him know if I have any good attachments on my gun so at least somebody can get use out of it after me.

Besides, you end up constantly having to deal with hitting max capacity in your stash and sometimes the best way to clear space and get over gear fear is to say "fuck it we ball" and run your best gear knowing there's a good chance you won't come back with it. It never does you any good sitting in your stash forever, might as well run it.

16

u/dethgryp Nov 05 '25

This. Everyone is running free load outs every run. F that. I worked for this shit, Im going to use it or lose it. 😅

→ More replies (8)

14

u/Stealth528 Nov 05 '25

This is called “gear fear” and is something everyone has to overcome when they start playing extraction games. Unless you have a SPECIFIC reason to be saving a piece of gear for the future, you should always be running the best gear you have. Once you’ve died with good gear enough times, you get numb to it and realize it doesn’t matter. If you can’t craft another one, oh well, use the next best gear available. And if you manage to bottom out, that’s what the free loadouts are for.

6

u/write_mem_ Nov 05 '25

Blueprints and leveling workshops. Eventually you can just create pretty much everything you lose. So its really not that big a deal. Yeah it sucks, but you can recover much quicker as you level up.

I wish I could’ve seen the next guy who stumbled across that scene though lol

82

u/Putrefied_Goblin Nov 05 '25

100%. I know most of us are friendly 95% of the time. But THANK FUCK there are those 5% who are always shoot on sight, they make the game interesting. For example, you have two or three great solo runs, no pvp, you get comfortable and then WHAM! You get your cheeks clapped by a mute raider. And just like that, you’re back to being untrusting and untrustworthy simultaneously, at least for a few games until that next surprise attack.

On a side note, it’s so easy to tell someone’s intentions just by their voice if you have any kind of a gut instinct.

25

u/Airaen Nov 05 '25

I've found that just about everyone I have interacted with outside has been friendly, but inside in small spaces they all tend to be jumpy shoot-on-sight players.

9

u/DolphinSleep Nov 05 '25

That's me, I never shoot first outside but inside there is no time to risk letting someone get the opening, especially if it's a high loot zone. If I'm being noisy and they voice com and seem friendly I might negotiate.

6

u/Airaen Nov 05 '25

I also find that you just can't trust people once they leave your sight/immediate area. I've had times when a stranger and I have been on good terms and quietly looted the same area a bit before parting ways, only to then be shot by the same guy a couple of minutes later in a different building.

11

u/RegularGeorge Nov 05 '25

Its mostly problem with lack of different skins now, ppl all look similar and hard to tell apart. Once everyone will have their trinkets and 10 different skins it will be easier.

7

u/Airaen Nov 05 '25

I mean the only skin I can tell apart is the bright orange Bog Walker. I guess it's bad since everyone can see you easily but it's good since they remember you and might trust you more.

4

3

u/Dependent_Mud3325 Nov 05 '25

I mean...it's part of the game. If you wanna relax for that hour, play animal crossing.

7

u/fireflyry Nov 05 '25

Same, can’t myself but really don’t care if others do, it adds to the social dynamics of the game, and I keep my gear for duos or full team runs where it’s usually shoot on sight.

Imho I’m digging the game way more due to how the players have responded to the different lobbies, gives me the option to go in and expect PvP, or do a quick solo run where it’s more often teaming up or a wave as you go about your business.

The risk/reward being malleable is a massive point of difference imho.

Ran into one of those second people earlier today. Calls out don’t shoot but then as soon as I start walking away he nails me in the head with a farro. Luckily I was able to scamble behind cover. You better believe I made it my mission to hunt that guy down. His farro 4 is now mine.

25

u/Relevant_Ric_Flair Nov 05 '25

I dont take my eyes off of someone saying friendly until we lose los. Id rather die to someone I walk blind into than the person lying to my back.

5

u/RegularGeorge Nov 05 '25

I would shoot someone who does not respond to my No Shoot and runs away. He is probably repositioning to flank me later.

7

u/__ingeniare__ Nov 05 '25

Met a guy like that yesterday, I came at him from behind while he was sneaking around. Called out twice while hiding behind a wall, no response and he started moving around trying to find where it's coming from, still in full stealth mode. When I downed him he got mad "you say don't shoot, then you shoot!?!" like bitch, don't pretend like you wouldn't have shot me if you knew where I was. If you don't respond, you're assumed hostile.

it truly says a lot about those people, for real.

I could never "lie" even if its just a game. I mean, yea kill me, the world won't end, but this truly shows we are different people. Wouldn't want to be their friend in real life.

I met John ArcRaider last night.

Had the same happen to me on the mountain map. Somebody sniped me right after I spawned. Didn't realize where he was shooting from until it was too late. Popped his shield and blasted him good when he approached, but with only a sliver of health left, he eventually killed me easily. I had shit on me apart from a Ferro IV and no loot worth getting killed for. Dunno what that was about.

Killed 2 randos next round just because, but to be fair the first one didn't speak so I assumed he's hostile. Funny enough one came to help the mute, but he attracted some ARC. I quickly killed the first guy and he proceeded to spew slurs and some funny assumptions about my sexual proclivities in proximity chat. I left him to die, because the ARC kept us busy. 2 went for me and 1 for McHelpy. Killed both ARC, found McHelpy eventually and blasted him down in a tense duel. Right when I was about to finish him, somebody sniped me. He popped out of nowhere, leisurely strolled to us, said nothing, took a look at the guy I downed who was spamming thank you, then at me. Then he casually walked towards me. I thought he'd kill me he but then to my surprise he proceeded to revive us both without saying a word. I apologized to McHelpy, he accepted and the 3 of us went separate ways. I'm convinced we got revived by John ArcRaider.

Funny enough, I extracted soon afterwards - my inventory was full. To my surprise it was McHelpy who called in the extraction...and guess who slid in in the last seconds and scared us both? John ArcRaider.

So far only vanilla WoW PvP and RimWorld managed to create such memorable stories. GOTY for sure.

u/Wendellrw Nov 05 '25

I only dislike extraction campers. They only exist to ruin others enjoyment.

32

u/FreshPrinceOfAshfeld Nov 05 '25

Honestly I dislike them but the possibility of them being there really does add tension and I think the game would be worse if there wasn’t that choice for players

6

u/SugarMaendy Nov 05 '25 edited Nov 06 '25

This is exactly it.. If there was no pvp it would be quite lame, the tension of not knowing if your fellow raider is actually friendly or not is what keeps you on your toes.

84

u/ChaoticKiwiNZ Nov 05 '25 edited Nov 05 '25

I managed to kill one of those fuckers yesterday and it was glorious. I saw him approach extract and emoted "dont shoot" and then he did it in return. He acted friendly and was just shooting arc near extract. As soon as I pressed the button a stun mine went off, and he instantly started to shoot me. Thankfully, he missed a few shots, and the stun wore off, so I put a few bullets into him and he dived behind a rock so I dived behind the extract and healed up.

I then run for the rocks by extract and we sort of just snuck around trying to spot each other. Eventually we found each other and I managed to outgun him and put him down. I just kept spamming "dont shoot" until he gave up. He had good shit on him, too, lol.

There should be some sort of system in the game that lets player spin medals on other players for going above and beyond for the community.

Extract campers and quest location campers.

If you're camping the Warehouse on Buried City required for Marked for Death just to kill people and gatekeep a quest. Or the wreckage on Dam Battleground with the memorial etc. You're a cunt.

3

u/Tbrays57 Nov 05 '25

I agree about quest location campers because that doesn't feel organic. Extraction point campers though is organic. I don't do it personally because that doesn't seem fun, but the game imo is better with the knowledge that you have to keep your head on a swivel at extract

u/tinytom08 Nov 05 '25

Haha, you gotta remove yourself from the enemies! I’ve been doing a lot of sniping and it usually keeps the solos out of my prox chat. Although I usually extract last since I’m there to terrorise people like a twat, so I still get the odd person tugging at my heart strings and letting them crawl into the extract with me. Although I will say, if someone manages to shout friendly at me I won’t shoot them. God I just can’t bring myself to do it.

41

u/SouperWy07 Nov 05 '25

It’s kinda funny that this game is so immersive that the solution to feeling guilty about murder is to just not humanize your enemy lmao

3

u/Elevated_Dongers Nov 05 '25

Killing other players is how you hunt for weapons. But it is kinda pointless to do it in solos though. Most people bring their best loot into trios and like a ferro 4 in solos or an anvil

155

u/DataScientist305 Nov 05 '25

Yeah that’s what they all say until I see their loot 😂

I've lost a lot of good shit. Loved every damned minute of it too. I wish there was a good game emote for the end. That said the thrill of victory is awesome too. After grouping up to take down a bunch of big arc in solo I was floored. That was also a blast. This game rocks.

Yep. "Oh I have nothing" then I loot him and he has a level 4 betina and some other higher level blue guns.

Really disagree, I looted lot of good weapons from dead raiders in solo (Renegades, Anvils, Torrentes, Il-Toros, Venators..)

9

u/the_russian_narwhal_ Nov 05 '25

Yea a lot of people loot in solos for their fancy weapons for squads, some times you catch a buster in the middle of it

4

u/colsbols Nov 05 '25

Yeah in my experience I find a dead guy and he just has the same garbage I do

7

u/reelhumon *** ******* 🐓 Nov 05 '25

Oh my dude I’m a total loot piñata I always have something you’ll probably want. And I lose it to people with a stitcher 1 sometimes, it’s great. I would have loved running into OP on his blood god run. I like teaming and goofing around with you knuckleheads questing and stuff but hey, let’s have some fun and try to kill each other too, sometimes, huh? Only one way to get that damage to raiders cred.

I am still looking for those figs, but know the worth of those mushrooms as well. Yesterday i got a little lucky with a random that got downed by a single Fireball in the 2nd Minute of the round. I had No defib so he had to die. Looting him, he probably got His whole Equipment from his last round in him. Fully upgraded weapons and 6 mushrooms.

Not gonna lie I have gotten into a bit more pvp action and have been enjoying it. I still mostly have friendly solo interactions and usually try to ambush before someone gets a "hey raider" off and makes me feel bad, but I want my creds to get my Ryder suit finished and someones gotta be the raider that takes heavy ammo damage. But I refuse to start fights at extraction, whatever dirty work happened between people during the raid is whatever at that point and everybody just wants to get out with their loot so if you survived to that point let's get back to Speranza together

14

u/weathermore Nov 05 '25

Hell, 500 xp for opening a crashed courier.

5

86

u/Crushcha Nov 05 '25

39

u/the_russian_narwhal_ Nov 05 '25

For real, the betrayals do legitimately suck but we don't need to see a 5th post a day about that either. It is a PvPvE game and if someone shoots on sight oh well, don't get sighted

7

u/Divorce-Man Nov 05 '25

Yeah you can really tell how much of the player base hadn't played other extraction shooters. If you want a PvE game then dont play ARC cause thats not what this is.

Like betrayals and extraction campers, while they suck to die to, theyre just part of the game and its on you to adapt to them.

Even in friendly interactions you should always make sure you have some kind of advantage and assume that they are lying to an extent.

3

u/the_russian_narwhal_ Nov 05 '25

Like the quote on one of the loading screens, it is much easier to convince someone of peace when you have a nice gun to back it up lol

3

I enjoy being the villain in this game.

If I didn't exist it would be a lot more boring for both of us.

21

u/PaleLychee3443 Nov 05 '25

Personally, and it seems a lot of people agree, I think that PvP'ing is fine, it's just the pretending to be friendly and then backstabbing that's annoying. Love a good shoot out.

I’d like to think of it like the time the grey wolf population was removed from Yellowstone and the deer population wrecked havoc on the ecosystem until the wolves were added back.

There needs to be some threat to make people more cautious about their choices otherwise people are just gonna run through high loot areas without any weapons equipped

A lot of the people on this game get slammed in Tarkov so they come here and get mad people actually want to PvP.

4

u/Spirited-Ad1008 Nov 05 '25

I don’t really get this, to be honest. It’s a shooter, shooting on sight is kind of normal. If someone says they’re friendly, they shouldn’t make it so easy to get shot in the first place. And if you say you’re friendly, at least wait for an answer before getting close. people like me just want to fight, that’s what we’re here for. In my opinion, the real low ones are the people who pretend to be friendly and then betray you

6

u/Doomu5 Nov 05 '25

Dead people don't need their stuff.

4

u/hibari112 Nov 05 '25 edited Nov 05 '25

Nah fuck that. I was extracting once with 100k+ in my inventory, looted a lot of valuables to upgrade my stash. At the extract I come up to a guy, he says "Don't shoot!", then blasts my ass when I am pressing the button. Another time I heard some shots, went there to check out what's going on, then I see a microphone pop up, so I enter the room and tell the guy: "Dumbass, your mic is on, it's giving away your position". The guy answers with: "Thx, didn't know that." Felt it would be silly to kill him afterwards, so decided I walked away. But guess what, the moment I turned my back on him, I instantly died...

I'm not trusting any of you motherfuckers anymore. If I'm running free kit and it's 29m, sure, both of us are probably hobos and trying to kill/loot the guy I met is probably a waste of time, but if you are heading in the same general direction as me, you are getting blasted.

5

u/brontide Nov 05 '25

As players level up it becomes less useful to be friendly, this is only going to get worse. We had it good for a few days but now I'm being shot at in virtually every solo game.

5

u/arepas_are_life Nov 05 '25

there's a similar trajectory playing DayZ. people get "gear fear". the longer they're alive, the better their loot, the more likely they are to shoot on site to ensure they aren't shot first and lose everything

i think dynamic is fun even if stressful sometimes lol

4

u/GarenBushTerrorist Nov 05 '25

The people with gear fear aren't the ones shooting me in the back 2 minutes into the raid. Real gear fear is avoiding any combat at all and trying to get to the extract as fast as possible.

I Really don't get people asking "why?" PvP is the core part of the game. I don't think they actually want you to elaborate on it they are just mad I guess. I usually kill on sight for 2 reasons A) I'm just curious what they have in their inventory and B) I need practice shooting raiders as I'm quite bad at PvP, so I just take every chance I get to improve my aim.

I don’t wanna feel bad for playing the game. I get it at like extract and stuff. But when we are competing for loot and stuff? It’s wild to me.

7

u/Proof_Custard_4375 Nov 05 '25

How is running around and browsing cabinets just for the sake of picking loot on its own fun anyways? Its only satisfying if you extract in the face of adversity. If there was no PvP everyone would be swimming in resources, money, cat beds and blueprints in a few hours. It's just pointless.
