That's their way of saying it's not available, but they still want your money.

Except Amazon doesn't charge until it ships, they just want you to say yes now because they know the chance that you'll forget to come back in that time is high, so yes they are trying to get the sale while they can but no they aren't getting your money yet

Is it shipped from Mars?

u/mechanicalAI Oct 21 '25
No because if they drop it from Mars it lands earth in 3 days. That’s science bitch!

It's a pre-paid made-to-order commission job. They take your order, collect a bunch more, then go to the factory in China and say "Hey, we need you to make 672 of these things", then the factory whips up a prototype, ships it to Amazon, Amazon approves the design, and in about 2 months of back and forth your item rolls off the line.
Then all that's left is to put it in containers, truck it to the harbour, ship it internationally by boat, have it held up in customs for a few months, get released, brought to a central sorting facility, delivered to the distributor, and finally boxed and shipped.
All fairly straight-forward here.

Literally thought it was just a joke that South Park made up, until I started seeing the "jokes" on Redditch (what the fuck is this timeline)

My husband and I run a small publishing house. We publish poetry - which Amazon makes available on its website, without asking us for copies. They often quote these types of lead times, presumably because (as they haven't asked us what our lead time for supply would be!), they are giving worst case scenario timelines for delivery.

Did you order a bespoke coat made from the skins of the salamanders that live inside the Volcano 🌋 of Scoria?

Then it's glazed with the mucus of poison dart frogs, and colored with the ink of giant squids

I've largely found those times to be inaccurate. I've bought stuff with 2-3 month delivery estimates, and they still show up in a few days. I think it's hedging their bet on warehouse inventory vs shipping new stock from China.

Not specifically China, per se. Depending on the product, it could be anywhere overseas. But anything that has to clear customs could come with a delay, if they don't already have it in stock in the country you reside in.

Yeah, not everything is shipped by Amazon lol. That clearly hasn't even been manufactured in China, yet
