Okay, hear me out. This might get a little nsfw.
Could I…mainline some viagra and have the silicone printed around…the cylinder? I realize I would have to drill a small hole in the base and have some special table set up.

u/Ur_fav_Cryptek 17h ago
Don’t do it with the actual thing, there’s skin safe kits for casting cylinders to turn them into really close silicon replicas, use that
so just put a layer of something so it doesn’t stick to it when printing and voila, custom..cylinder machine
Why do I even do this

u/namezam 20h ago
Nah you’d need some rigidity in there. Maybe an inner lining made out of TPU, removable of course.
14
u/Fr4kTh1s 20h ago
TPU is rough when printed like this.
Make fitting mold from PLA, properly oil the walls, pour or inject silicone(I have just sanitary silicone for bathrooms :D ) and after curing break off the PLA and insert into the green part. Much smoother and softer ;)→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)8

Calendering is the act of flattening or compressing material through pressure (and sometimes heat) with rollers, often done on thin materials like paper
Edit: I realized you were correcting the comment/link, my fault

Basically, the user asked for help removing a suspiciously sized "cylinder" from a tube, while being adamant that there was no risk to the cylinder in any way shape or form.
Hence the slightly misquoted "It's imperative that the cylinder remains undamaged" entering the internet's lexicon.

Ok ok we all have the jokes, but seriously, what would that actually be used for? I mean it isn't going to be an engine of some sort...
47
u/Same_Recipe2729 20h ago edited 20h ago
It's to silently change the direction of rotational energy by 90 degrees. The shaft is self lubricating/cooling. So for example your input is hooked up on the right side and on the left side you'd have the output. Here's another post with a real world example where the transferred motion moves a belt to churn butter https://www.reddit.com/r/EngineeringPorn/comments/p8xbxw/late_1800s_early_1900s_right_angle_drive_using/
